One of the biggest mistakes I see with muscle-ups...
People practice failing muscle-ups instead of building the things that actually create them.
Most people don’t need more attempts.
They need stronger fundamentals.
If your chest-to-bar pull-up is weak...
If your hollow body position falls apart...
If you can’t control the transition...
Your muscle-up will always feel inconsistent.
The athletes who progress fastest usually spend more time cleaning up basics than chasing flashy reps.
At Sydney Calisthenics, we spend a lot of time building:
• explosive pulling strength
• body tension
• clean movement patterns
• controlled transitions
Because when the fundamentals improve... the skill follows.

To help push the calisthenics movement and assist local athletes to get the recognition their efforts deserve in a growing sport.
Not all calisthenics parks are equal.
Some look good in photos... but are terrible for beginners.
A good beginner-friendly park usually has:
- low bars for rows and regressions
- enough space to move without feeling cramped
- simple setup without needing advanced strength just to use it
- bars that let you practise basics before skills
That matters because the best way to build strength is not by throwing yourself at advanced movements too early.
It’s by finding a setup where you can actually train the basics properly:
rows
incline push-ups
support holds
hanging knee raises
step-throughs and controlled eccentrics
That’s how you build a base that actually leads somewhere.
If you’re training in Sydney and want to know which parks are best for your level, start paying attention to the setup... not just whether the bars look cool.
Save this for your next park session, and if you want help finding the right starting point, send us a message.
