If you compete or have competed.

I bet you’ve probably woken up and felt just like this.

Trust in the process, communicate with your coach (without freaking out lol), then keep doing what is needed to bring the best package 👊🏻

This can drive anyone crazy!

Even if you see improvements happening on the physique, that number on the scales can weigh heavily on how you feel and how some can think their progress is going within a prep.

That’s why data and context is so important, something I track closely and also relay heavily onto my clients.

Especially seeing trends- low weigh in on a Saturday, but then jump up on Monday. Even with perfect compliance I see this often, so I somewhat expect it, clients can too, which can help reduction of stress when they see that increase on a Monday.

So although weight is a great tracking tool, it’s not always the most reliable or absolute accurate of progress within a prep 👊🏻

No changes can be the best changes ✅

As frustrating as this can be for clients, sometimes no changes are needed at all.
It can also come across as ‘lazy’ coaching. However if I see someone’s weight coming up at a good rate, I may not push more food just to see it come up even faster, which may then result in more bodyfat accumulated.

Don’t get me wrong, there are for sure lazy coaches out where who don’t make changes cause they can’t be bothered. But if there is no reason to make an adjustment, it is explained, progress is going well or more data needs be gathered, that’s not lazy, that’s coaching ✅

It’s the hard reality, but it’s something that needs to be understood.

The sooner you understand this and embrace bringing that condition the less stress and better package you’ll bring to stage.

Post comp- it’s not an easy time for a lot of people.

A big focus post comp should be health, including psychological health.

This is where coaching still needs to happen and a plan set post comp to make sure both physiological and psychological health are moving in the right direction.

Prep can be a massive mind fu*k.
Especially when you’re really depleted and start second guessing everything.

This is where, as bodybuilders we can get delusional and think that we need food fast.
Valid.
However that may not always be the case.
You may need to spend some time here to get to the condition you need.

Embrace the suffering and focus on that end goal 👊🏻

I don’t want to go in depths with this post, as I believe talking deep about issues around eating is a very individual approach and should also be treated with caution.

Especially wording.

To give context, I actually hate the word ‘binge’ as I believe it has a negative connetation with it, where people using that word can cause a lot more psychological stress compared to overate/overeating.

But I am all for clients having some flexability and variation in the offseason. I actually encourage it from a psychological point of view.

However when things start to get a bit excessive, we sometimes need to assess things a bit more, especailly if this happens In a dieting period.

Just some of my thoughts as I believe there is a lot more issues around eating than people think.
