At this morning's CMAA Members' Meeting, held prior to the National Managers Conference, we were honoured to see Federal Executive President and long-time CMAA member David Hiscox ACCM receive the well-deserved honour of Life Membership.

Pictured below are David with CMAA Vice President Joe Bayssari, The Federal Executive Team with CMAA CEO Ralph Kober, and David's dedicated and passionate team from Dapto Leagues Club, who were there to celebrate this special occasion.

Introduction from Ralph Kober:

Dear Members,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that David Hiscox ACCM, President of the Club Managers Association Australia, has been awarded Life Membership of the Association.
This honour has been bestowed upon David by his peers, the Federal Executive, and the Federal Council in recognition of more than three decades of outstanding service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the CMAA and the club industry.

David's journey within the Association began during his time as Manager of Miranda RSL Club, working under the guidance of Steve Cowan. He quickly became actively involved in the CMA Illawarra Shoalhaven Zone, serving first as a Committee Member and subsequently as Zone President for many years.

His passion for the profession and dedication to the Association saw him elected to the Federal Executive as a State Representative, before ultimately being elected President of the CMAA in 2015 and serving to date.

Among his many contributions, David's leadership during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic stands out. During a period when much of the Association's activity was forced to cease, David helped steer the CMAA through one of the most difficult chapters in its history, ensuring the Association remained strong, relevant, and able to continue its critical industrial relations advocacy on behalf of members.

Throughout his presidency, David has consistently placed the interests of the Association and its members above all else. His leadership has been characterised by integrity, commitment, sound judgement, and an enduring passion for the advancement of club management professionals across Australia.

Today, we formally recognise David's tireless service, exceptional leadership, and lasting contribution to the CMAA through the awarding of Life Membership—one of the highest honours our Association can bestow.

Members, please join me in congratulating David Hiscox ACCM on this well-deserved recognition and show your appreciation by acclamation.

Congratulations, David.

How confident are you in your club’s workplace health and safety procedures?
Not every safety issue happens within the four walls of your club. Hazards can arise in car parks, loading docks, outdoor areas, or anywhere your team is working or interacting with members and guests.
No manager can be everywhere at once. That’s why creating a strong safety culture means empowering every team member to be your extra set of eyes.
Encourage your staff to stay alert, speak up when they notice a potential risk, and report hazards before they become incidents.
The question is: are your team members actively looking out for safety, or are they simply walking past potential hazards?

is your club ready for the new seafood labeling requirements ?

Menus must disclose seafood origin or penalties apply
From 1 July 2026, when you order seafood at a restaurant, cafe, takeaway, food truck or any other hospitality venue in Australia, the menu must tell you where the seafood comes from.
If a menu does not display country of origin labelling for seafood dishes, you have the right to ask the venue where the seafood comes from.
Venues that fail to comply with these requirements may face significant penalties under Australian Consumer Law.
This new rule is part of the Australian Consumer Law and helps you make an informed choice about the seafood you eat for freshness, sustainability, or personal preference.
