We tend to measure progress by the things we can see.

We look for the number on the scales to change, our clothes to fit differently or someone else to notice that we've lost weight.

But some of the biggest changes happen so quietly that we almost miss them.

You might find yourself carrying the shopping without thinking twice, saying yes to something you would have avoided a few months ago or getting through the afternoon with a little more energy than you used to have.

None of those moments make for dramatic before-and-after photos, but they're often the changes that make everyday life feel easier.

Maybe you've been looking for progress in all the wrong places.

Our July Members of the Month:

They train consistently.
They quietly show up.
They treat people with kindness.
They look after the space.
They encourage others without expecting recognition.

Thank you both for the kindness, positivity, and encouragement you bring every time you walk through our doors. We're so proud to recognise your well-deserved achievement.

Thank you J & H for helping make Fitness Local the welcoming community it is.

The strongest shoulders aren't built in one workout ๐Ÿ’ช
They're built through patience, good technique, and showing up consistently.

Small improvements become big results.

Take your time! Remember - you are pouring a glass of water with the elbow being the highest point in the motion.

It's easy to think that change happens because of one big decision, but more often than not, it's the small choices we make every day that quietly shape the direction of our lives.

Every time you choose to show up for yourself, even when it's inconvenient or you don't really feel like it, you're reinforcing the kind of person you want to become. Those moments might not seem significant at the time, but they have a way of adding up.

The good news is that you don't have to get everything right. You don't have to be perfect, and you don't have to make up for yesterday. You simply have to keep making choices that the version of you a year from now will be thankful you made.

It's easy to spend time looking back and thinking about all the things you wish you'd done differently.

You might wish you'd started sooner, kept going, or not let life get in the way. We've all had those thoughts at some point.

But while you're looking backwards, tomorrow is quietly getting closer.

The choices you make today don't have to be big or life-changing. Sometimes it's the small decision to show up, take an hour for yourself, or do something that makes tomorrow just a little easier that matters most.

None of us can change what we didn't do yesterday. But we can decide what we're going to do with today, knowing that the person we'll be a year from now is shaped by the choices we make now.

There isn't one big moment when it happens.

It's the first time someone remembers your name. The coach who asks how your week has been. The familiar faces you start seeing at the same time each week.

Without really noticing, you stop wondering if you fit in. You know where to find your favourite piece of equipment, you recognise people as they walk through the door, and the gym starts to feel less like somewhere you visit and more like somewhere that's part of your routine.

It's never about one workout or one conversation.
It's the little moments that quietly add up over time.

And before you realise it, you're not just coming here to exercise. You're walking into a place that feels familiar, comfortable and welcoming every time you arrive.

That's something we're incredibly grateful to be part of. ๐Ÿ’š

Bulgarian Split Squats
Setup and Form Tips - DO THIS!

1. Setup: Sit on a bench and extend one leg straight out in front of you to determine the ideal placement for your front foot.

Stand up, position your front foot where it was extended, and place the top of your back foot on the bench behind you.

2. Back Foot Placement: Rest the top of your back foot on the bench rather than balancing on your toes. This reduces strain and improves stability.

3. Leg Positioning: Avoid keeping your legs and feet in a perfectly parallel line. Instead, maintain a slight gap between them (hip-width apart) for better balance and control.

4. Body Angle for Quad Focus: Keep your torso upright during the movement to target your quads more effectively.

5. Body Angle for Glute Focus: Lean your torso slightly forward to shift more workload onto your glutes. Your quads will still remain actively engaged.

6. Adding Glute Emphasis with Contralateral Weights: Hold a single dumbbell in the hand opposite your working leg to increase the challenge on your glutes through an offset load.

Let us know if you need us to check your form or technique. We are here to help.

Maybe you're not trying to become someone new at all. Maybe you're trying to remember a version of yourself that feels a little distant.

The person who laughed more easily, said yes without overthinking it, and had the energy to enjoy life instead of simply getting through it. Life has a way of layering responsibilities on top of us, and before we realise it, we've become so busy looking after everyone else that we've lost touch with ourselves.

The good news is that person hasn't disappeared. They've just been buried beneath years of work, family, commitments and putting your own needs last.

Sometimes looking after yourself isn't about changing who you are. It's about making enough space to reconnect with the person who's been there all along.

People often say they want to "get back to how they were."

But if you really listen to what they mean, it's rarely about their body.

They're talking about how they felt. They miss having energy at the end of the day. They miss feeling confident in themselves, saying yes to things without overthinking it, laughing more easily and feeling a little lighter as they moved through life.

Maybe what you're really missing isn't a younger body at all.

Maybe it's the version of yourself that felt more present, more capable and more connected to who you were.

And perhaps that's the person you've been hoping to find again.
