Stage 1: Immediate adaptation. Someone who’s never done it before turns up and everything feels clunky, difficult. Then they feel it. Hips, glutes, calves. In acceleration even the shoulders and pectorals feel tight and stimulated. But it settles over time.
Stage 2: The movement becomes habitual. Easy. Coordinated. Everything’s timed, there’s a rhythm behind it. A flow. They’ve been there so many times they know exactly how to get the best out of their stride.
Stage 3: High pressure. Racing. This is where they rush. Urgency kicks in, they want to win, everything’s stimulating, but they can’t time it under pressure. Versus someone. Chasing down a ball. They need more exposure, more repetitions, or a greater baseline of output so they can win even when they’re not fully efficient.
Stage 4: Autonomous under pressure. Precision timing. Like a striker who’s practiced a free kick thousands of times. Been through all the difficulty, so there’s no fear, no tension, even with everyone watching. The pressure is perceived by the people watching. The athletes doesn’t feel it.

Another client of ours showcasing brilliant transition from jog into sprint, one of the most common events that occur in team sports. 林俊谚 getting ready for Europe and has already hit the 32km/h mark, acceleration is lighting with stride frequency hitting 4.97 strides per second!
We set the athlete to take off right prior the timing begins after the jog in, this puts the athlete into a position to rifle the foot down with intent and urgency, really mimicking the adrenaline rush that occurs in games that create that extra stimuli to overextend performance..

Here is what nobody tells you about getting faster.
You do not get fast in the session. You get fast in the recovery after it.
Hammer your nervous system every day and you will always be running tired. Give it real time to recover and
you come back sharper, springier and quicker. Sometimes that is 7 plus days for the system to fully reset.

Not from doing more. From doing the right things.
Stiff ankles. Weak quads. Two things holding him back that nobody had picked up on.
We fixed them. The speed followed.
Most coaches are asking the wrong question.
When a player moves from the A-League to the Bundesliga, everyone asks: can he play at that level?
Wrong question.
The real question is: how fast can his nervous system make a decision in that specific scenario?
Think about changing lanes on a highway.
You’re not thinking about how to change lanes - you already know how to drive.
What you’re managing is time.
How fast is the car behind you closing?
How much gap do you have?
How quickly can you read it, decide, and act?
Football is the same.
Life is the same.
The speed of the press, the closing speed of a defender, the tempo of build-up play, these aren’t just “higher standards.”
They are time-constrained scenarios.
And your nervous system has never been in them before.
That’s the real adaptation problem.
Not skill.
Not fitness.
Not technique.
Decision speed.
In the specific scenario. Under the specific time pressure.
And if you’re not timing your scenarios, measuring how fast decisions are actually being made, you’re not developing athletes.
You’re just hoping adaptation happens before the club runs out of patience.
Hope is not a performance strategy.
Time your scenarios.
That’s the only measurement that matters.
⏱️ How fast can you decide
If you’re getting beat off the first step, you don’t have a speed problem. You have a force problem.
This athlete ran tall and couldn’t put force into the ground off the line, couldn’t direct it forward. He had decent elasticity, stiff ankles, was reactive enough - but nothing actually moving him through those first few steps.
We built the strength and power first.
Slow eccentric squats to develop the tendons and teach him to control force. Then maximal strength, so his quads and anterior chain could stay low and punch back into the ground.
Then we made it fast - plyos to put the elasticity back through the cycle, then high-intensity top-end speed.
Then we backed off and let him peak.
First ten meters. Seven strides. Smooth.
