SUPRA is an independent representative association SUPRA is the only organisation that has ever represented postgraduate students at the University of Sydney.

Formed in 1970 by Science postgrads, SUPRA was formally acknowledged by the University of Sydney Senate in 1974 after years of debate. Because most postgraduate students at the time were research students, the Students' Representative Council (SRC) considered them to be junior academics and had thus declined to admit them as members. In 1979 SUPRA became a founding member of the Council of Austral

The Postgrad Recharge Lab was a free three-session series funded by SUPRA to offer postgraduate students a warm, empowering space to pause, relax, and take a break from academic pressures. Inspired by Raja Yoga Meditation by the Brahma Kumaris, the sessions combined guided meditation, group reflection, and creative mindfulness activities like creating personal mandalas. The series successfully initiated a supportive peer wellbeing community at the university.

On Sunday, 24 May, student representatives from SUPRA, UNSW PGC and WUPA came together at the SUPRA office for a relaxed BBQ evening filled with good food, music, chats and much-needed downtime.

It was a lovely chance to connect beyond meetings and emails, share stories, enjoy the music and spend time bonding across campuses.

The warm atmosphere and playlist kept the evening lively, with everyone enjoying a break from the usual postgraduate routine.

The jollof wars have been settled. 🍚πŸ”₯

Last friday we brought people together at for an evening of West and Central African food, music, and community. Multiple styles of jollof, suya, chicken, sides, snacks, and good energy from start to finish.

A massive thank you to .afro and of for not only feeding the whole room but sponsoring the prizes for our Jollof Nation winners. The generosity was real and it did not go unnoticed. πŸ™πŸΎ

Shoutout to .usyd for the support and community behind this and to everyone who came through, ate, argued about whose jollof was better, and stayed till the end β€” you are the event.

This was funded by the SUPRA Social Impact Grant, created to build community among postgrad students at USYD. Safe to say the community showed up.

The verdict? Everybody won. 🌍

Joint Statement from SUPRA and SRC: New $5 Canteen Coming in Semester 2

Dear Students,

In August 2025, following advocacy efforts by student representatives from SUPRA and SRC, the University of Sydney launched a pilot $5 hot meal program, which has been widely welcomed by students. Since the program began, University of Sydney Postgraduate Senate Fellow Weihong Liang, SUPRA Co-President Yiman Wu, and SRC President Grace Street have worked with the University through the Campus Canteen Advisory Working Group, conducting student site tours and attending joint meetings with the University to explore improvements and better respond to student needs.

Through these ongoing efforts, the University of Sydney will open a new $5 canteen at the Electrical Engineering Building (J03) in Semester 2, 2026. The new canteen will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner services, alongside expanded seating areas, offering students a more stable, convenient and affordable on-campus dining option.

The new canteen is expected to commence operations from approximately 3 August 2026, subject to construction progress, and will be located on Level 1 of the Electrical Engineering Building (J03). The current $5 lunch service at Level 3 of the Wentworth Building will continue operating until Friday, 29 May 2026.

We welcome this substantial step forward in affordable student dining and thank students for their continued feedback and engagement. SUPRA and SRC will continue working to ensure the long-term sustainability of the $5 canteen initiative and to better serve all students.
