Built a salon. Built an amazing team. Still becoming. 😌

Cool girls do not wait for permission to build cool things. They just start and figure it out on the way. 🤍

Lucky for me mine came with it all 😩

Find someone who is building something, who thinks bigger than their comfort zone, who challenges you to grow. Because looks are a bonus when you are already winning on every other level.

The standard has been raised and I am not lowering it for anyone.

For years I chased what I thought beauty was supposed to look like. Lighter. Straighter. Smaller. More palatable. I sat in salon chairs and asked people to make me look like someone I was never meant to be and I called it self care.

Then my hair fell out.

And what felt like the worst thing that ever happened to me at the time, turned out to be the most powerful redirection of my life. I have not looked back once.

If you are in a place where you do not yet see yourself as beautiful in your natural hair, I want you to know that is not your fault. You were taught that. And you can unlearn it.

5 things that helped me:

1.Stop consuming content that makes you feel like your natural hair is something to fix or tame

2.Find one person who looks like you and loves their hair out loud. Let their confidence become your permission

3.Learn your hair. Understand your texture, what it needs, how it moves. Knowledge replaces shame faster than anything else

4.Stop apologising for your hair taking up space. It is supposed to

5.Give it time. The relationship with your natural hair is exactly that, a relationship. It takes patience, consistency and a lot of unlearning

Your hair was never the problem. The world just never taught you how to love it. 🤍

For generations, straight hair has been associated with looking more “polished” or “professional”, leaving so many people feeling like their natural texture needed to be changed, controlled or tamed to be taken seriously.

But professionalism was never a hair texture.

Your curls can be big, textured, defined, coily, wavy and everything in between and still belong in every workplace, boardroom and professional space 🩷

Maybe the curls were never the problem. Maybe it was the standard.

I always thought my curls came from my Zimbabwean side… until I visited the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Seeing curls everywhere, from Zeus to philosophers. This was a beautiful reminder that they’re part of my Greek heritage too. What does your history actually say about curls ? 👀

We have the keys 🔑

To say this moment means everything would be an understatement. The Curl Lab is officially moving into our brand new home in Marrickville and I genuinely cannot believe we are here.

From 6 clients to a fully booked salon. From a tiny boutique space to something I have only ever dreamed of. This new space is everything our community deserves and so much more.

For too long people with wavy, curly and coily hair have been underserved, overlooked and left out of beautiful salon experiences. Not anymore.

We open our doors on the 1st of August and I cannot wait to welcome you in.

If you have been thinking about booking, now is the time. The link is in our bio 🤍

Sydney’s curly hair era just got a serious upgrade.
