🌏 Bidding Process Guidelines

● Organizational Capacity:
◦ The bidding country should provide a detailed proposal outlining their experience in organizing karate events, including arrangements, near by accommodations options, transportation options, and safety measures.

● Facility Standards:
◦ The bidding country must have access to a minimum of two full sets of tatami (mats) suitable for international competition standards.

◦ The venue must have adequate space for competition areas, warm-up zones, spectator seating, and athlete facilities.

● Personnel and Officiating:
◦ The host country must commit to providing a team of judges and referees trained according and aware of SKDIA rules and standards.

◦ The bid must include a plan for recruiting and managing volunteers to assist with event organization, registrations, athlete management and logistics.

● Selection Process:
• All bids must be submitted in writing by 20 June 2026 to the SKDIA official page or via email.
• An evaluation committee, comprising SKDIA board members, will review all submissions based on the criteria outlined above.
• Shortlisted candidates may be asked to present their bid in a virtual or in person meeting.
• The final decision on the host country for Shotokan International Cup 2027 will be made by the SKDIA Board.
• The winning bid will be announced publicly on July 1, 2026 as the Host Nation of the Shotokan International Cup 2027.

• The host country must agree to comply with all SKDIA rules, safety standards, and officiating protocols.
• The bidding process aims to promote transparency, fairness, and the selection of a capable host to uphold the prestige of the Shotokan International Cup.

📢 Exciting Announcement from the Shotokan Karate-Do International Association! 🥋

We are excited to share that the Shotokan International Cup will now be held every 2 years, with each edition hosted by different country representatives. Every year, our representatives will have the opportunity to bid on hosting this international event and we are now officially inviting all members to express their interest in hosting the 2027 tournament. The tournament is open to members of ALL Shotokan clubs and organizations.

The country that wins the bid will receive a comprehensive set of rules for the event, including rules and regulations for divisions in both kata and kumite. The selected host will be responsible for organizing, hosting and officiating the tournament, with support and help from the SKDIA board.

Meet the Chairman of Shotokan Karate-Do International Association: Michele Ciampa Sensei. At just 36 years old, Ciampa Sensei has been doing karate since he was 6 years old and holds the rank of Sandan. His lifelong passion for martial arts has taken him around the world, training in various martial arts disciplines and enriching his understanding of martial arts.

Ciampa Sensei runs a full-time dojo in Tasmania, Australia, where he passionately teaches and mentors students. His international experience, combined with his leadership qualities, make him an exceptional figure within SKDIA. He was chosen as Chairman because of his proactive involvement, innovative ideas and genuine heart for the karate community.

Ciampa Sensei speaks 5 languages (English, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese) which shows he is a natural communicator, able to connect with members worldwide effortlessly. His modern approach, especially in social media, structure and communication, exemplifies the leadership style needed to steer SKDIA forward in today's modern world.

While the role of Chairman isn't about being the highest-ranked or most skilled karateka in the organization, Ciampa Sensei's leadership, vision, and dedication to Shotokan make him the perfect person to guide SKDIA into a bright future. Ciampa Sensei is a 3° Dan in Karate and currently resides in Australia. His commitment to the martial art and his vision for our community make this a truly exciting chapter for SKDIA.
