Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia

Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia Australia’s premier yacht club and home of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. This page is administered by Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (“CYCA”).

Nestled along the beautiful Rushcutters Bay foreshore, just 10 minutes drive from Sydney's CBD, the club enjoys stunning harbour views and world-class facilities and offers its 3,500 members and many visitors plenty of excuses to visit regularly. The CYCA was established in 1944 and over the years has become Australia's leading exponent of ocean racing and sea safety. Its race management expertise is often called upon for other international sailing events such as the Olympics and round-the-world races. The CYCA caters for the most passionate ocean racer to the social sailor with a full calendar of mid-week summer twilight and weekend offshore racing and Sunday winter racing. While the pinnacle for the most adventurous is to take on mother nature in the annual Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, others enjoy the competitiveness and camaraderie of the shorter ocean races that are run year-round. Appreciating the popularity of one design racing, the CYCA also hosts regattas for various one design classes. One of the CYCA's most remarkable success stories is its youth training program, the Youth Sailing Academy. Since 1993, the YSA has seen thousands of students graduate from its learn to sail through to advance courses, some going on to represent their club and country on the international match racing circuit. The original marina and clubhouse is long gone and in its place is a brand new floating marina and world-class yacht club that offers five-star function rooms, alfresco dining on the deck, and all the support services a boat owner needs. Members and visitors to the CYCA enjoy being part of an active club in a superb location with state-of-the-art facilities and an international reputation that attracts yachts and crews from all over the world for the climax of the sailing calendar and one of Australia's greatest sporting icons - the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. CYCA encourages contributions to the page that foster positive and constructive engagement. Comments are moderated before publication. Double Handers sweep the podium as southerly powers Flinders Islet fleet 🌊

Race 2 of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore showed once again why this is Australia’s premier offshore Pointscore. At 88 nautical miles, the Flinders Islet Race is the shortest in the series. But when the southerly swept through the fleet on Saturday evening, bringing winds of up to 45 knots, it demanded seamanship, teamwork and well-prepared yachts from every crew.

Next up: Tollgate Islands on Friday 16 October ⛵ Entries close 05/10/26 at 1200 hours ⏰

Live Race Updates Flinders Islet
Saturday 26 September 2026 – 1900hrs (9 hours after the start)

The southerly has arrived and the fleet is flying home!

Moneypenny is off Bondi at 19 knots with just 5nm to go, so Line Honours is all but hers. Ten miles back, Smuggler, Sticky, Gusto, Back 2 Black and Ambition are surfing north off Cronulla, racing the clock.

But the smaller boats are calling the shots on corrected time. Chris O'Neill's J/99 Blue Planet has taken the IRC Overall lead from Disko Trooper, with Borderline third. Blue Planet also leads PHS, IRC Corinthian, and Double-Handed IRC and PHS.

Live Race Updates Flinders Islet

Saturday 26 September 2026 – 1600hrs (6 hours after the start)

26 of 33 boats have rounded Flinders Islet and are heading home to the CYCA, and they're all chasing Moneypenny.

Rob Appleyard's 69-footer was first around and is punching back into the northerly, now 29nm from the finish. Smuggler (Seb Bohm) and Back 2 Black (Sean Langman) swapped places soon after the turn, with Porco Rosso, Gusto, Sticky and Ambition next in line.

The overall battle is taking shape. Double-handers Disko Trooper and Borderline are just edging Calibre 12 and Crowded Haus, but there's a long way to go yet.

Provisional leaders
PHS: Llama II, Luna Blue, Crowded Haus
Wild Rose IRC: Kanreki, Tenacity, Ragtime

Saturday 26 September 2026 – 1300hrs (3 hours after the start)

Three hours after the start and Rob Appleyard’s Moneypenny has the ascendancy in the race for Line Honours as they passed Thirroul heading south, 4.6 nautical miles ahead of Smuggler (Seb Bohm), with Sean Langman’s 42-footer Back 2 Black taking a line closer to the coast, a further 0.2nm back.

Moneypenny’s position is 12nm from the halfway mark.

While it’s still early days in the race for the Overall title, Back 2 Black leads the IRC standings from Moneypenny, Smuggler and Sticky.
