Happy 2023 everyone! There are a number of 2016 GGB finisher medals available with the 8k or half marathon ribbons. I'd really like to give them a good home - you know we've been passionate about Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter - but I don't believe they will find them useful, so I want to convert them into donations.

In order to get one of these classic 2016 finishers medals, all you have to do is to

a) Run or walk the 2016 course, either half marathon or 8km or run/walk ANY 8km or half marathon - this part is optional, but you will get immense pleasure from going back up those Heritage Steps againšŸ˜†

b) Donate a minimum of $100 to the HK Women's Shelter here - https://hkws.org.au/donate/ It's tax deductible. This is the mandatory part!

c) Post evidence of your run/walk on your page and tag this GGB page.

If you are not comfortable with sharing your evidence publicly, message me that you done a and b.

Message me with details on how you want to get the medal. It would be great if I don't have to post them, but I will if needed.

I made my donation today and walked the course in the pouring rain with Andrew. Only 4 leeches.

Remember these are limited - first come first served - you will be getting a piece of Hornsby history, but more importantly, helping someone who needs it.

Harassment of female runners a gendered issue with no simple solution 05/12/2016

As you know, we have supported the Hornsby Kuringgai Women's Shelter for the last couple of years at GGB. Mel Zeppel posted this article, which you might find interesting. How many of you have seen or experienced this type of harassment? I remember some years ago, a friend at the gym told me she would not go trail running because she was scared of this sort of thing happening while in remote places.

Harassment of female runners a gendered issue with no simple solution Honking, catcalls, following and sexual propositions — these are just some of the intrusions women risk having to put up with when they go for a run.

It's with great sadness that I have to announce that we will not be organising GGB in 2017. 7 weeks ago I had a major heart attack and although Greg and I have looked at options, we felt that it was right to put it on hold for a year, so I can focus on my recovery.

It was a difficult decision, but we fully intend to keep the race going in 2018 and we look forward to seeing you there. We hope you're not too broken hearted :)

Trails Less Travelled has written a cool blog on the race. Well we're biased and like it a lot!

Good to know about the congestion at the start

But I think they got it right. I don’t…

Gee you were lucky these signs weren't out on the Heritage Steps on race day, otherwise you would all have had to walk up the steps to the finish line!

Great pic of the first 3 women over the line in the 8km, well done to all.
