Justin’s Tai Chi Journey ~From Confusion to Passion
When I was young, I had always wanted to learn Tai Chi. I studied with several instructors over the years, but I always felt that something was missing. Most of them focused on teaching the movements and helping students memorize the forms, yet they never truly helped me understand the philosophy and essence of Tai Chi. As a result, I never continued practicing for very long.
Everything changed when Senior Brother Lin strongly recommended Boyuan Tai Chi. That was when I truly stepped into the world of Tai Chi.
What I appreciate most about Boyuan is Master Yang’s unique teaching approach. He guides us step by step, starting with the fundamentals and gradually building deeper understanding. Rather than expecting us to perform every movement perfectly from the beginning, he patiently explains the principles behind each posture. Through his guidance, I have come to understand the importance of relaxation, balance, coordination, and the unity of body and mind.
Under Master Yang’s instruction, I also gained a much deeper understanding of qi. I discovered that qi is not some vague or mystical concept—it is something that can genuinely be felt within the body. When I practice with an awareness of qi, my whole body becomes more relaxed, my movements flow more naturally, and after each practice I feel refreshed, comfortable, and at peace.
One of the greatest advantages of Tai Chi is that it can be practiced almost anywhere. Whether in the living room, the backyard, or the garage, all I need is a small amount of space. Nowadays, whenever I feel stressed, emotionally weighed down, or physically stiff, I simply begin practicing a set of Tai Chi. Within a short time, I feel refreshed, my body loosens up, and my mood becomes lighter and happier. Few other forms of exercise provide such complete relaxation for both the body and the mind.
Learning Tai Chi has also given me a new understanding of health. My goal is not to pursue the highest level of martial skill, but to maintain a good quality of life through consistent practice as I grow older. I hope to keep my body flexible, stay healthy, remain independent, and avoid becoming a burden to my family. I believe Tai Chi is far more than just exercise—it is a way of cultivating health and a lifelong way of living.
Today, practicing Tai Chi has become an indispensable part of my daily life. It has strengthened my body, calmed my mind, and taught me how to find peace amid the busyness of everyday life.
I feel truly fortunate to have joined Boyuan, to have met Master Yang, and to have received the recommendation from Senior Brother Lin, as well as the encouragement and support of all my senior brothers and sisters. They have helped me truly understand Tai Chi and develop a genuine love for it.
I am confident that I will continue practicing Tai Chi for many years to come and allow it to accompany me through every stage of my life.

Justin
Perseverance Changes Lives
Perseverance Changes Lives
For a long time, my impression of Mr. Huang has been that he is a very humble, soft-spoken person. He has always learned quietly, practiced Tai Chi diligently, and never sought attention.
It was not until a Tai Chi reunion event, when we invited him to share his learning experience, that I was surprised to discover that this usually quiet man could speak so eloquently about his three-year Tai Chi journey. His sharing was sincere and profound, deeply moving everyone present.
It turns out that real change does not require grand words, but comes from quiet persistence every day.
Mr. Huang’s story once again proves that as long as we are willing to believe and willing to persevere, Tai Chi can truly improve health and transform lives.

● 鬆腰落胯,腳下有根,重心轉換穩而慢;
● 以意導氣,呼吸綿長,讓動作與氣息合一;

Three Years of Tai Chi, and I Got a “New Heart”
Three years ago, an acute myocardial infarction put my life on pause.
At the time, my heart’s ejection fraction (EF) was only 39%, I had long-term severe pain in my back, and anxiety was always with me. With a “let’s give it a try” mindset, I walked into a cardiac Tai Chi rehabilitation class and began a journey that changed my life.
I am grateful to my teacher for the patient guidance לאורך the way, from Tai Chi 6 forms, 36 forms, to 83 forms, as well as various health-preserving exercises, leading me step by step with solid progress.
For the past three years, I have practiced for about one hour almost every day.
Tai Chi taught me that health preservation is not just about movement, but also about cultivating both body and mind. I learned to:
● relax the waist and sink the hips, keep a rooted stance, and shift my center of gravity steadily and slowly;
● guide qi with intention, breathe smoothly and continuously, and let movement and breath become one;
● stand upright and centered, clearly distinguish between empty and full, not rush, not force, and simply focus on the present moment.
Three years later, at my follow-up appointment, my EF had improved to 55%; the back pain that had troubled me for years was gone, my stamina had improved significantly, and I could walk more steadily and with greater strength.
More importantly, through breathing and focus, I gradually let go of my anxiety and regained a long-lost sense of calm.
Tai Chi is not a quick fix, nor is it a miracle; it is companionship day after day, and through slowness and persistence, it helps the body recover and the mind settle.
Three years of Tai Chi not only gave me a healthier heart, but also helped me regain my health, my confidence, and my true self.
I hope my experience can bring hope to more heart patients and people with chronic illnesses, and that more people can benefit from Tai Chi and reclaim a healthy life.

My Tai Chi Journey
Tai Chi is widely recognized as a form of exercise that promotes health and well-being.
For over 25 years, I have lived with heart disease, specifically cardiac arrhythmia and mitral valve regurgitation.
By a fortunate turn of events, when I was around 60 years old, I moved to Kuala Lumpur to live with my daughter. My son-in-law invited me to join a Tai Chi class. From my very first lesson, I fell in love with Tai Chi and have continued practicing ever since. Today, I am 78 years old.
Throughout these years, I have faithfully taken my prescribed medication and returned to Sydney annually for follow-up examinations with my cardiologist. At every check-up, my specialist has been pleased with my condition. He believes that my mitral valve regurgitation has remained stable over the years, and that my consistent Tai Chi practice has played an important role in maintaining my health.
Of course, everyone’s body is different. My personal experience does not guarantee that others with heart disease will achieve the same results through Tai Chi. However, I can confidently say that Tai Chi has greatly improved my overall health, enhanced my quality of life, and brought me both physical strength and inner peace.
For me, Tai Chi is more than just exercise—it is a way of life. It has taught me discipline, balance, and mindfulness, helping me embrace each day with greater confidence, gratitude, and vitality.

My Detour in Tai Chi
When we are young, we all have our dreams and fantasies.
Like the songs of childhood that speak of reaching a heavenly realm, or the stories of Jin Yong’s legendary hero Zhang Wuji mastering extraordinary martial arts, I, too, dreamed of learning the ultimate martial arts.
So when my son-in-law invited me to learn Tai Chi, although I was already nearly sixty years old, I eagerly accepted. It felt as though a lifelong dream was finally within reach.
My son-in-law had been practicing for about a year and spoke very highly of his teacher, the fourth-generation successor of an authentic Tai Chi lineage. Inspired by his enthusiasm, I devoted myself to learning with great sincerity.
The style we practiced was the Small Frame (Xiao Jia), a relatively rare branch of Tai Chi. Although its movements are more compact and subtle than those of other styles, the foundation remains the same. The most fundamental practice is Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation). No matter how different the styles may appear, they all return to the same essential principles.
