Why our kids classes look "different"
If you've watched a kids class at Destination Jiu Jitsu, you might notice something: we're not lining kids up to drill the same move 20 times in a row.
That's on purpose.
We coach using an ecological approach combined with constraints-led teaching. In plain English, instead of telling kids exactly what to do step-by-step, we design games and scenarios that guide them to discover the right movement themselves.
Why? Because problem-solvers beat robots.
A kid who's told "do it like this" freezes when their opponent doesn't cooperate. A kid who's learned to read positions, adapt, and find solutions under pressure? They can handle whatever comes at them, on the mat and off it.
So instead of rigid technique lines, you'll see:
πΉ Small-sided games with simple rules
πΉ Constraints that nudge kids toward good positions and habits
πΉ Lots of movement, lots of decision-making, lots of laughing
Is it unconventional compared to old-school "watch and repeat" coaching? Yes.
Does it work? Also yes. We're seeing kids retain skills better, problem-solve more confidently, and maybe most importantly, actually want to come back every week.
Fun and effective aren't opposites. That's the whole point.
