⛵ 2026 Australian O’pen Skiff Association AGM

The Australian O’pen Skiff Association recently held its 2026 Annual General Meeting.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who has taken up a position within the Association.

The Association simply could not continue without the involvement of our volunteers—particularly the parents of our O’pen Skiff sailors. Your time, energy and contribution enable our young sailors to grow, thrive and prosper in sailing across Australia.

We would love to see even more people become involved. If you are interested in contributing, please contact the Association through our page or website:

The sailing has wrapped up at the 2026 O'pen Skiff World Championships in Sardinia, Italy, and our Australian sailors have every reason to be proud.

Nate McCarthy (Southport YC) delivered an outstanding regatta, finishing 5th overall in the Under 17 Silver Fleet, while Owen Harris (Keppel Bay SC) achieved a superb 8th overall in the Under 13 Gold Fleet, competing against some of the world's best young sailors.

Congratulations to both sailors on representing Australia with determination, skill and sportsmanship on the world stage. A huge thank you also goes to their families, coaches and supporters who helped make this incredible achievement possible.

OpenSkiff World Championship 2026 in Calasetta, Italy - Day 4 31/07/2026

Fantastic news for Team Australia! 🇦🇺⛵

After 12 races at the O'pen Skiff World Championships in Sardinia:

🥉 Owen Harris is sitting 3rd in the Under 13 Gold Fleet, putting himself firmly in medal contention heading into the final races.
💪 Nate McCarthy is 6th in the Under 17 Silver Fleet, a terrific performance against a strong international fleet after 12 races.

For Australian sailing, it's especially encouraging to see Owen challenging at the very front of the Gold Fleet after such consistent racing throughout the regatta.

Go Team AUS! 🇦🇺

Here's hoping Owen can hang onto a podium position—and perhaps even climb higher—in the final races, while Nate finishes his championship strongly. Fingers crossed for some great conditions and clean racing! 🤞⛵

A few months ago, the O’pen Skiff Class Association had to make the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the O’pen Skiff World Championships, which were scheduled to be held at Keppel Bay Sailing Club in January 2027, due to the ongoing issues surrounding Tahe, the manufacturer of the O’pen Skiff.

While the decision was understandable, it was also extremely disappointing for everyone involved — particularly the young sailors from Keppel Bay Sailing Club who had their hearts set on representing their club and their country on home waters, and on welcoming O’pen Skiff sailors from around the world to their club.

With Australia no longer able to host the event, the Italian Naval League – Sulcis Section stepped forward and took on the considerable task of organising the World Championships.

To see the symbolic exchange of pennants between Keppel Bay Sailing Club and the Italian Naval League – Sulcis Section before racing began this week was a heart-wrenching moment. It was a reminder of what might have been for Keppel Bay and its young sailors, but also a wonderful demonstration of the friendship, respect and international spirit that makes our sailing community so special.

A sincere thank you to the Italian Naval League – Sulcis Section.

And to the sailors, families and volunteers at Keppel Bay Sailing Club who worked towards hosting these Worlds — you should be incredibly proud of what you set out to achieve. Hopefully, one day, the O’pen Skiff World Championships will make their way back to Australia and Keppel Bay will finally get the opportunity it worked so hard for.
