There’s something especially calm about Callan Park in winter. 🍃
The cooler weather, harbour views and quiet open spaces make it the perfect setting to slow down and take in the season. Whether you’re walking along the foreshore, enjoying the scenery or simply escaping the pace of the city, winter is one of the best times to experience everything the park has to offer.

Ever wondered how boats stay afloat, and bridges hold strong? 🌊 🌉
Harbour Heroes Boats and Bridges invites kids to explore how we move through water, over land, and across the park. They’ll spot real-world transport in action, then design and build bridges and boats while testing what floats, sinks, and holds weight using natural and recycled materials.
Perfect for ages 5–12.
🗓️ Tue 9 July & Wed 15 July 2026
⏰ 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

This week we celebrated International Day of Play!
Protect play, protect childhood!
Here are 5 ways to honour nature play across Greater Sydney Parklands:
1. Make time - protect everyday unstructured play. Let kids be kids, every day.
2. Playful places - choose spaces that invite climbing, balancing, hiding, creating, discovering and imagining.
3. Nature first - let green spaces lead the play. Loose parts, natural textures, and sensory-rich moments do the work.
4. Include teens - play doesn’t stop at childhood. Young people (12-18) need time and space to move, create, connect and unwind.
5. Share stewardship - look after the parks that look after us. Volunteer, pick up litter, and learn from the plants and wildlife around you.
What’s your favourite way to play in the parklands? 🌿
Celebrate play with us this week - find a nearby green space, bring someone along, and get outdoors.
We're developing a sustainability strategy for our parks and we’d like to hear what matters most to you. This strategy will guide how we care for and improve our parks into the future, so they continue to support nature, community connection and people’s health and wellbeing.
Your feedback will help shape how we manage our parks, deliver programs and events, and work with partners to support a more sustainable future. 👉 https://www.greatersydneyparklands.nsw.gov.au/about-us/our-organisation/policies-and-plans/sustainability-strategy

Here's what's been happening at Bush School in Callan Park, in the words of our facilitator Camille. 🌿
"Bush School sessions are all about connecting children with nature, with place, with others and with you — their family. Bush School is a little community responding in the moment, and over time, as seasons bring change and offer new things to discover. In autumn and winter we respond to the weather — make leaf kites on windy days and learn how to use sticks to build shelters. Even rain is fun when tarps are strung up and clay pots are made to collect the drops. A favourite is our fire session with a real campfire to keep us warm. Bush School inspires imagination and nature connection for all who come and it's wonderful fun."
