Exercise Physiologists specialising in strength training for better bone density, injury rehabilitation and long term independence

28/05/2026

Bone is living tissue, it is constantly adapting.

Throughout life, the body is continually breaking down old bone and rebuilding new bone in its place. This natural process helps maintain bone strength and regulate calcium levels within the body.

As we get older, that balance can slowly shift, particularly if we are not giving the body enough physical stimulus through movement and strength work.

That is one of the reasons resistance training becomes so important with age.

Done properly, strength training can help support bone health, muscle strength, balance, and overall physical independence.

If you have osteopenia, osteoporosis, or simply feel unsure about how to train safely, working with an exercise physiologist can help you build confidence and exercise appropriately for your body

Did you know that adults recycle 5-7% of their bone mass every week?

The body is in a constant state of remodeling bone tissue, balancing between breaking down old bone and building it back up.

But why does this happen? It’s because bones play a crucial role in regulating blood calcium levels.

To maintain these levels, bones need to be broken down.

As we age, the balance between bone buildup and breakdown eventually tips against us…

So, what’s the best natural remedy against this decline?

The answer is weight training!

This is your friendly reminder to keep up with your weight training regimen.

The benefits extend far beyond just improving your appearance.

If you’re not currently lifting weights, consider this a gentle encouragement to start.

For those concerned about bone density and training, I run small group classes daily to help people manage osteoporosis.

Classes are conducted under strict supervision to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Adopting this perspective on weight training transforms it from a vanity-driven activity to an essential practice for everyone.

What's more functional than refining movement patterns under load?

Among various exercise forms, weight training stands out as the most functional and advantageous.

Consider this against activities like running, assorted group classes, or stretching. How will these sporadic activities lead you to your fitness goals?

Without building stronger tissues and increasing your body's load-bearing capacity, you might find yourself stuck in a cycle of pain and dysfunction. Embrace weight training to break this cycle 💪💪

Strength training is a crucial tool for alleviating joint pain and building a strong body. While methods such as stretching, foam rolling, massage, and manual therapy are beneficial, they should be considered supplementary.

Relying solely on these techniques without integrating resistance training might not provide the lasting relief you're seeking.

Resistance training has unique benefits tied to the body's regeneration process. It involves how cells respond to mechanical forces, a process known as mechanotransduction. This means that weight-bearing activities are converted into physical changes and healing responses in the body.

Moreover, the effectiveness of this training is directly related to the intensity of the weights used.

In essence, weight training offers a proactive approach, addressing the root causes of pain and dysfunction, rather than merely treating the symptoms.
