Does foot positioning actually matter in your Reformer lunges? 👀

Absolutely. Your starting position can completely change the mechanics and challenge of the exercise.

In this variation, notice what happens when Deb starts closer to the footbar.

She has less available carriage travel, which means the springs aren’t lengthening as far. Less spring length means less spring tension for her to control at the end of the movement.

By stepping her supporting foot further back, we create more available space for the carriage to travel.

This allows her to explore a greater range of movement, lengthen the springs further and increase the spring tension she has to control as she moves through the exercise.

It’s a small set up change, but it can significantly change how the movement feels.

And this is where understanding the Reformer becomes so important.

It’s not simply about knowing an exercise and choosing a spring setting. Where we position the body in relation to the carriage, footbar and springs can completely change what we’re asking the body to do.

If you’re a client, play with your positioning next time you lunge and notice the difference.

If you’re a teacher, start getting curious about the WHY behind your set up.

This is exactly the kind of detail we explore inside our Reformer Teacher Training. Not just learning exercises, but understanding the mechanics behind them so you can teach with more intention, confidence and adaptability.

Our final Reformer Teacher Training for 2026 begins this October.

What if you just went for it? 😍

Meet Deb.

Already a yoga teacher when she stepped into our Reformer Teacher Training, Deb knew what it was like to stand at the front of a room… but stepping into something new still came with the doubts, nerves and challenges that so many of our trainees experience.

Fast forward to now and she’s teaching 20 classes a week across three studios, including right here at Morning Light, after securing work straight out of her training.

And her advice to anyone thinking about doing it?

Just go for it.

The doubt is normal. The challenge is part of it. And often, the really good stuff is waiting on the other side of backing yourself.

If you’ve been curious about where Pilates Teacher Training could take you, join us this Sunday 30 August for our free Online Pilates Teacher Training Info Session.

We’ll be chatting all things training, career pathways, our final Reformer intake for 2026 AND revealing our 2027 training dates for the first time 👀

Can’t make it live? Register anyway and we’ll send you the recording.

Ever heard your Pilates teacher say “engage your core” and thought… okay, but HOW? 👀

Good movement isn’t just about knowing the exercise. It’s understanding what we’re trying to create in the body, and sometimes you need to actually SEE the cue for it to finally click.

As a client, these little adjustments can completely change how an exercise feels.

As a teacher, learning to see what’s happening in the body and knowing how to cue, adjust and support the person in front of you is where the real learning begins.

And this is exactly the kind of thing we dive into in our Pilates Teacher Training ✨

Our final teacher training for 2026 begins this October, and I’m hosting a free Teacher Training Info Night via Zoom on Sunday 30 August.

I’ll be sharing more about the course, answering your questions and also announcing our 2027 Teacher Training dates for the first time.

If you’re ready to chat sooner, you can book a discovery call with me, or come along to the Info Night and see if our training feels like the right fit for you.

500 classes with our beautiful Cheryl!

Cheryl began her movement journey with us in retirement and 500 classes later, she’s proof that it’s never too late to start.

She’s stronger, sleeping better after years of being disrupted by neuropathy pain, keeping up with her grandbabies and, in her words, has found a community that feels like an extension of her family. 🥹

500 classes of showing up for herself. What a milestone.

And in Cheryl’s own words:

“I have grown stronger and feel so supported with my fabulous teachers assisting with each step of my pathway.

I look forward to another 500 classes ❣️ And just maybe I’ll graduate to a Fusion Reformer 😆 one day!”

We love you, Cheryl. Here’s to the next 500! ❤️
