The International Kickboxer connection is particularly significant. The magazine grew out of Blitz's popular “Ring Talk” section, which covered the growing Australian kickboxing scene before becoming its own publication. International Kickboxer went on to become an important source of coverage for Australian fighters, gyms, promoters and events. The 1990s also saw some of Australia's most influential martial arts figures helping shape the Victorian fight scene. John Scida, for example, had been involved in kickboxing since the early 1980s and went on to develop numerous Australian champions through his gyms and promotions.
