For businesses, supporting local sport can deliver a lot more than simply having your logo on a jersey.
Done well, community sport sponsorship creates an opportunity to build genuine connections with the people who live, work and spend money in the communities your business serves.
And the research supports it.
Why should businesses invest in local sporting clubs?
π It can influence where people spend their money.
YouGov research found that 35% of Australians are more likely to support or purchase from a brand that supports grassroots and community sport. That rises to 46% among sports fans and 51% among highly passionate sports fans.
π€ It builds brand goodwill and affinity.
Sport provides businesses with an opportunity to associate their brand with something people already care deeply about. Nielsen research examining 100 sponsorships found an average 10% lift in purchase intent among fans exposed to those sponsorships.
ποΈ It connects your business with the local community.
Australian Sports Commission research found that 81% of Australians believe organised sport has a positive influence on their local community. Sport also generates an estimated $18.7 billion in social capital each year through things such as community engagement, trust, reciprocity and belonging.
π₯ It puts your business in front of connected networks.
Sporting clubs bring together players, parents, supporters, volunteers, coaches and other local businesses. The ASC reports that 61% of Australians believe sport is important for bringing people together in their local community, while 68% see sport as a place where people can feel a sense of belonging.
π And importantly, sponsorship helps keep community sport accessible.
New Australian Sports Commission research released on 31 August 2026 found the average entry-level cost of playing sport is now $1,161 for a child. Sponsorship allows community clubs to invest in equipment, facilities, uniforms, coaching and programs while helping reduce the financial burden ultimately carried by families.
At the Southport Tigers, we believe the best sponsorships work both ways.
Our partners help us continue providing opportunities for juniors, seniors and families to be part of a strong local sporting community. In return, we want to provide our sponsors with genuine exposure, connection and opportunities to build relationships within the Tigers community.
We are now speaking with businesses interested in partnering with the Southport Tigers for the 2027 season.
If your business wants to support grassroots rugby league while building its presence within the Gold Coast community, we would love to have a conversation.
Send us a message through Messenger or contact us at [email protected] to discuss our 2027 sponsorship opportunities.
