What an absolute cracker the return of the iconic Hamilton Island Cup has been so far. After an 11 year hiatus Hammo has come back in a blinding celebration of all things outrigging. We feel so privileged to be back at Hammo - for some of us it has been decades and others it is the first time. The ocean is still as beautiful as ever and the atmosphere electric with racing excitement. Our Senior Master Women came 8th in the 16 klm around the island race yesterday and 2nd in the 4klm Max Christmas Dash today. Leanne McManus raced a gruelling 16k around the island on her OC1 on Thursday.
While the racing is awesome, the fellowship amongst paddlers - seeing so many reunions and also new friendships being made - is what we have loved the most.
Shout out to the NZ Takitimu men who borrowed our Malolo and are now recognised by Paddler Life TV as Poly Va ๐ They won their race today which we were pretty happy seeing our gorgeous red and yellow canoe proudly cross the finish line.

What a cracker of a weekend on Moreton Island! From paddling, snorkelling, feeding dolphins, climbing giant sand hills, fishing and exploring the pristine beauty of this island we all felt so grateful for having this island on our coast line. For a ferry ride of only 24 nautical miles, the city felt like a world away.
Thanks to our club for the foresight in obtaining a grant to buy a small craft trailer and the expert towing and handling by Clint Storey, we were able to take 13 small craft to the island.
Shout out to Steve Tomoana - the man who dreamed up this trip and committee members Raelene Jose and Jane Storey who helped organise the logistics. Itโs all the unknown incidental things that require attention to detail that make a trip like this run smoothly.

On Saturday it was such a gorgeous day we scrapped the program and just enjoyed the paddle. Sometimes you just need to connect with the water, relax into smooth tunes and feel grateful for being able to spend time on the water with your paddling family.
