Please friends help us stop this New Zealand government from giving our country away to big industries! The New Zealand that we know and love will be gone forever if this passes through.
It’s no longer the Maori fight for land protection it has to become National and International fight for our country it’s not just about the rivers, about control of land that people have access to and conservation areas that are protected from taking big industries taking advantage of our resources and people and stopping the exploitation of our people.

The limestone rock formations of Penguin Island and surrounds are super interesting to check out from a kayak.

These rocky islands have formed from what was basically a series of giant sand dunes that have been subjected to weathering processes over time. Sea level changes mean that vegetation has also changed over time, in fact Penguin Island was once part of the mainland and forested with large trees 🌳

Evidence of these past ecosystems can be seen in the rock formations of the islands today, with fossilised root structures and vertical solution pipes visible all around Penguin Island.

The caves created by erosion of the softer areas of rock provide great resting and nesting areas for wildlife 🐧🦅🐣

Our guides will bring the history of the Shoalwater Islands alive in their stories. Join us for a fun adventure; you may even learn a thing or two! 😉

The magnificent Australian pelicans of the Shoalwater Islands are always an impressive sight to see.

With Penguin Island being a significant breeding site for the pelicans, there’s plenty of adults and awkward teenagers to be seen at the moment. Access to the pelican rookery is controlled, to give these beautiful birds the best possible chance of successfully rearing their young, as they are very susceptible to human disturbance.

Fun fact: did you know that a mature pelican can fit between 9 and 13 lites of water in their bill? Why would they want to, you ask? Because a peli-can 🤦‍♀️😏
