Two players we expect to feature pretty prominently when Morrison Medal night rolls around on September 14 were right at the pointy end of the rankings in week one of the finals. 👀🏅

Both cracked the 170+ ranking-point mark, as did Tom Evans, who also topped the weekend for disposals after racking up a massive 40 touches. 🤯

But how about this from Norris...

💥 82 RANKING POINTS IN ONE QUARTER! 💥
Yep, you read that correctly.

After Kyabram made a slow start to Saturday’s elimination final at Euroa, Norris almost single-handedly dragged the Bombers back into the contest during a phenomenal second term:
🔴⚫ 15 disposals
🔴⚫ 10 clearances
🔴⚫ 8 hit-outs
🔴⚫ 82 ranking points

That’s not a quarter. That’s a full stat sheet squeezed into 30 minutes! 😳📈

🎯 THE GOALKICKERS DELIVERED TOO
Two men shared top billing in front of the sticks:
⚽ Riley Mason | 5 goals
⚽ Dan Tuddenham | 5 goals

And Mason’s five, along with James Auld’s three, provided a fitting finish to the season for two players who have been among the competition’s most dangerous forwards all year.

🥉 James Auld | 45 goals (after kicking 42 last year)

🏉 The finals have arrived, the numbers have gone up another notch, and some of the competition’s biggest names are already making their presence felt.

Three finals. Three winners. And one pretty clear trend from the weekend...
📈 WIN THE FOOTY, WIN THE GAME.

All three winning teams finished well ahead in the disposal count, but dig a little deeper and there were some fascinating statistical anomalies across the weekend. 👀

🦢 SWANS BROUGHT THE HEAT
Despite Kyabram winning Sunday’s elimination final, the Swans certainly weren’t lacking pressure:
🔥 More tackles than Kyabram
🔥 Almost TWICE as many pressure acts

The Bombers eventually took control through sheer weight of possession, finishing the second half with 71 more disposals than the Swans after Shepparton had dominated the stats board in the opening quarter. 💣

🐻 BEARS MADE THEM EARN IT
The Bears might have gone down, but the numbers show just how competitive they were.
➡️ They finished with only ONE fewer inside 50
🛡️ They recorded a whopping 47 spoils to 29

🏉🔥 STATS STARS | KYABRAM v SHEPPARTON SWANS 🔥🏉
The Bombers are marching on in September, but Sunday’s elimination final certainly didn’t start according to script.

🦢 THE SWANS STARTED STRONGLY

Shepparton had the better of the opening term, finishing the quarter with:
🔵 +18 disposals
🔵 +12 marks
🔵 +3 inside 50s

But then came the premiership quarter... 💣💥

🔴⚫ THE BOMBERS TURNED THE GAME
Kyabram took complete control in the third term:
💥 +31 disposals
💥 +15 marks
💥 5 goals to 1

That surge proved decisive as the Bombers took charge of the contest and kept their finals campaign alive. 🚂

⭐ THE STATS STARS
🥇 Zac Norris was the highest-ranked player on the ground, producing another huge performance when it mattered most. In the 2nd quarter alone he had 82 ranking points, including 10 clearances and 15 disposals.
💪 Co-captain Coby McCarthy was enormous at the coalface, with his contested-possession count almost matching that of Norris.
🦢 Ollie Warburton did his bit for the Swans, while 🎯 James Auld booted three goals as Shepparton put the boots in cotton wool for the summer.

🔴⚫ For Kyabram, there’s another final to prepare for.

🏐 SEMI-FINAL WEEKEND | THE ROAD TO THE GRAND FINAL
Week Two of the GVL Netball Finals Series takes us to Seymour on Saturday and Kyabram on Sunday, with seasons on the line at one venue and direct passage to the Grand Final up for grabs at the other.

📍 SATURDAY | KING’S PARK, SEYMOUR
After falling to Euroa in the Qualifying Final, Mooroopna gets its second chance in the A Grade premiership race when the Cats take on Seymour on the Lions’ home court.

And there should be plenty of red and blue around King’s Park.

The Lions have A Grade, B Grade and B Reserve teams all in action on Saturday, giving the home crowd plenty to get behind.

🔥 2.15pm | A Grade: Mooroopna v Seymour
🏐 1.00pm | B Grade: Echuca v Seymour
🏐 11.45am | B Reserve: Shepp United v Seymour
*This B Reserve fixture is a second semi-final.
🏐 10.30am | 17&Under: Shepp Bears v Mooroopna
🏐 9.15am | 15&Under: Shepp United v Euroa

For the Bears and Mooroopna in 17&Under, there is no second chance. It’s a cut-throat Semi-Final with the winner advancing and the loser’s season over.

📍 SUNDAY | KYABRAM RECREATION RESERVE

Then on Father’s Day, the stakes climb another notch.
Euroa v Echuca in A Grade. 🏆

The winner goes straight through to the 2026 GVL Grand Final. The loser lives to fight another day, but will have to negotiate a Preliminary Final the following weekend.

Echuca and Euroa will have a major presence at Kyabram, with both having three teams in action on Sunday, after its B Grade and 15&Under sides play at Seymour the previous day.

🏐 1.00pm | B Grade: Euroa v Shepp Bears
🏐 11.45am | B Reserve: Euroa v Rochester
*This B Reserve fixture is a first semi-final.

The 17&Under clash carries a huge prize, with Echuca and the Swans playing for a place in the Grand Final, while the Father’s Day action begins with Echuca and Mooroopna chasing the same reward in 15&Under.

By Sunday afternoon, our Grand Final picture will be considerably clearer. 🔥🏐

🏉 WEEK TWO. THE STAKES JUST GOT HIGHER.
The first weekend of the 2026 GVL Finals Series delivered plenty of drama. Now we head into Semi-Final weekend, where the road to the Grand Final starts getting very narrow.

📍 SATURDAY | KING’S PARK, SEYMOUR
The Shepparton Bears and Mooroopna meet in the First Semi-Final, and for one of them, the season ends here.

The Cats arrive after surviving an absolute thriller against Seymour, holding on for a three-point Elimination Final victory.

The Bears have their second chance after going down to Echuca under lights in Week One, but there are no more safety nets.

🔥 2.00pm | Seniors: Shepp Bears v Mooroopna
🏉 11.45am | Reserves: Kyabram v Seymour
🏉 9.30am | Under 18: Shepp Bears v Shepp United

There’s plenty of local flavour underneath the senior clash too, with Seymour playing at home against Kyabram in the Reserves First Semi-Final, while Deakin Reserve co-tenants Shepp Bears and Shepp United square off in a do-or-die Under 18 contest.

📍 SUNDAY | KYABRAM RECREATION RESERVE
Then comes a Father’s Day blockbuster.

Murray Bombers v Kyabram Bombers. ✈️💥
Echuca and Kyabram meet in the Second Semi-Final with a massive prize waiting for the winner: a place in the 2026 GVL Grand Final.

🔥 2.00pm | Seniors: Echuca v Kyabram
🏉 11.45am | Reserves: Echuca v Shepp Bears
🏉 9.30am | Under 18: Echuca v Benalla

Echuca will have all three football grades in action at the same venue on Sunday, giving the Murray Bombers faithful plenty of reason to make the trip to Kyabram.

And by Sunday evening, we'll have our first Senior Grand Finalist and be one enormous step closer to deciding who plays for the 2026 GVL premiership. 🏆
