The image shows several tents set up among trees, along with shopping trolleys, personal belongings and scattered rubbish.

While some residents expressed concern about the condition of the site and its impact on the surrounding bushland, others pointed out the reality faced by people sleeping rough, particularly during winter.

The situation highlights the difficult balance between maintaining clean and safe public spaces and showing compassion to those experiencing homelessness.

Many note that rough sleepers often face challenges including housing shortages, financial hardship, mental health issues and a lack of support services.

Others argue that while homelessness deserves understanding, public land should still be treated with respect and rubbish managed responsibly.

The photo has become a reminder of the growing housing pressures facing regional communities, where rising rents and the cost of everyday essentials are leaving some people with few options.

Whatever people's views on the camp itself, the image shows a reality many would rather not think about – that for some Australians, a tent in the bush has become the closest thing they have to a home.

Community members have gathered in Shepparton to mark National Sorry Day, with a ceremony recognising the Stolen Generations and reflecting on reconciliation, healing and truth-telling.

The event began with a Welcome to Country and song in language, followed by a traditional Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony led by Dr Neil Morris.

Students played a central role throughout the commemoration, delivering speeches, participating in a wreath-laying ceremony, leading a flag raising, and taking part in cultural performances.

The event was organised by the Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group and supported by Greater Shepparton City Council.

A northern Victorian family is living through a nightmare – and their story has sparked protests outside the Shepparton Law Courts.

According to the family, a woman was cleaning her B&B when a vehicle came speeding up her long driveway.

Not knowing it was police, she ran out, told the driver he was trespassing, and began walking beside the car as it reversed. That’s when everything allegedly went horribly wrong.

They claim the officer suddenly threw the vehicle into drive, je**ed the wheel, and struck her – knocking her down, running over her foot, dragging her, and leaving her with a shattered pelvis, a broken ankle, and broken ribs.

As she lay on the ground screaming, the officer reportedly insisted she was “bluffing.”

Her husband ran out to help, only to be pepper-sprayed, handcuffed, and arrested when backup arrived – while she remained injured on the driveway for more than an hour before an ambulance arrived.

Dash-cam and body-cam footage reportedly captured the entire incident. The police vehicle that hit her? Gone from the scene.
The officer? According to the family, never checked on her, never offered aid.

Meanwhile, her husband is the one facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.

The case has shaken locals so much that protesters gathered outside the court yesterday, demanding answers and sharing their own experiences of alleged police misconduct.
