Shelley parkrun is a free, timed, 5km run / walk put on by the community for the community at 8am ev The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once!

parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a 5km timed run, jog or walk. It can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. Shelley parkrun offers an opportunity for all members of our local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy our beautiful foreshore and get physically active in the process. What a glorious morning for a run/walk/jog. 219 people agreed with me and came out to Shelley parkrun this morning. In near perfect conditions we had 26 PBs. What an effort.

None of it would have happened without a team of volunteers:

Joanna PARKIN • Matthew WEBB • Alcira VALSECCHI • Sue GLYDE • Shuzhi PENG • Mark GLYDE • Brad SWALLOW • Margaret WOOD • Tanya WARMAN • Gabrielle WILLETTS • Kerry SMITH • Carol DICK

Particular thanks to those who stepped in at the last minute - Brad who stepped in to timekeeper after an admin error meant there is someone in Poland who is wondering why I emailed her on Thursday to remind her she'd volunteered, Matthew and Mark who got a late call up to Marshall the carpark and Joanna who never says no to an early run. Special mention to Craig Herbert who made an emergency dash yesterday afternoon to mark the turnaround point.

Our significant milestones this morning all went to volunteers - Margaret (pictured below) who did her 50th, Gabrielle also did her 50th and Tanya did her 25th. What a fabulous community we have.

See you all next week

To the lady who thought she'd lost her black jacket after leaving it near a tree this morning - it's been found. Gabrielle has left it on a bench opposite 191a Riverton Drive.

Another picture-perfect Saturday morning at parkrun! Crisp enough to remind us it's winter, but with calm conditions and plenty of sunshine, it was a fantastic morning to be out on the course.

A huge welcome to the 9 people who completed their very first parkrun today. We hope you loved the experience and can't wait to see you back again next week!

The conditions certainly helped bring out some speedy performances, with an incredible 44 personal bests recorded today. Congratulations to everyone who reached a new milestone, you've earned those celebrations!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who made the event possible, and to everyone who walked, jogged, ran, spectated or cheered others on. It's the people who make our parkrun community so special.

Have a wonderful week, and we'll see you bright and early next Saturday!

What a morning at parkrun!

It was certainly a windy one, but we were incredibly lucky that the rain held off.

A huge welcome to our 7 first-time parkrunners! We hope you enjoyed your first experience and that it's the start of many more Saturday mornings with us.

Despite battling the blustery conditions, we still managed to have an incredible 29 personal bests! That's an amazing effort.

Whether you were chasing a PB, volunteering, cheering from the sidelines, or simply enjoying a walk or run with friends, thank you for being part of another fantastic parkrun.

See you all next Saturday!

Shelley parkrun event #483! 💨 ☔️

What a wild and wonderfully memorable morning we had at Shelley parkrun on this parkrunday!

We were greeted with strong gusts of wind and heavy rainfall, making for truly challenging conditions out on the course. Big thanks to the course checker this morning who got up early and ran the course to make sure it was actually safe after the wind last night!

Unsurprisingly, the turnout was smaller than usual. While we typically welcome around 300 runners, joggers, and walkers, today we saw a hardy and determined group of 101 participants who braved the elements. Each and every one of you deserves recognition for simply making it to the start line - let alone completing the course in these conditions. It certainly wasn’t your average parkrun morning, and perhaps fittingly, we could refer to today as a “Room 101” edition - where the weather tried its best to test everyone’s resolve!

A huge thank you must go to our incredible volunteers. Your dedication never goes unnoticed, but today it was especially appreciated. Standing out in such harsh conditions is no easy task. In particular, we’d like to acknowledge our marshal and tail walker, who endured the full force of the wind and rain without the protection of our little shelter. Your commitment ensured the event could go ahead safely!

A special shoutout goes to Shelley, who was visiting us all the way from the Gold Coast. What better parkrun to complete in Perth than one named after yourself?! 😂 Not only did she take on the course in these testing conditions, but she also brought a moment of magic to the morning, captured perfectly in a photo of her standing beneath a rainbow! 🌈 A fitting reward for such determination!

Before the run began, it was fantastic to see so many of you gather for the photo. Thank you all for embracing the moment, it’s these shared experiences that make parkrun so special for so many of us.

We hope to see you all again next week, hopefully with a little less wind and rain!
