🌟 Women's Coaching Month Spotlight | Sammy Heron 🌟

We're kickstarting Women's Coaching Month, by celebrating Sammy Heron and her incredible contribution to coaching and the growth of women's football.

From her beginnings at Seymour Junior Football Netball Club to earning her Gold Coach Accreditation, Sammy has continued to build an impressive coaching journey. As AFL Goulburn Murray's Women & Girls Coordinator, Coach Developer, and Assistant Coach of the Murray Bushrangers Under 18 Girls, she is helping create more opportunities for women and girls while inspiring the next generation of coaches.

In 2023, Sammy was recognised as AFL Victoria's Peta Searle Female Coach of the Year, and next week she'll take another exciting step in her journey by attending Carlton VFL Women's training thanks to the support of the Murray Bushrangers.

💬 Sammy says:
"One of the moments that really reinforced the impact coaching can have came after I finished coaching our Under 16 boys for two seasons. A number of the players came up to me and told me that I'd changed their lives. That was incredibly humbling and something I'll never forget.

It made me realise that coaching is about so much more than wins, losses, or developing football skills. For many young people, footy is a safe place, an outlet from the challenges they may be facing in everyday life. As coaches, we have the opportunity to provide support, build confidence, create belonging, and be a positive role model.

Knowing I had made a genuine difference in those players' lives showed me that the most important part of coaching isn't just helping people become better footballers, it's helping them become better people."
