The ANSA Queensland REDCLIFFE SPORTFISHING FESTIVAL kicks off tonight with a free bbq down at the Moreton Bay Boat Club. Come down for the meet and greet at 6PM and let's give a warm welcome to the ANSA members that have travelled here and show them what a great club we have!

Local legend Jason Comino is back as our guest speaker Tuesday 8th September 7PM at Moreton Bay Boat Club. Packed full of knowledge on fishing for these big Moreton Bay Snapper, this night shouldn't be missed. Come down for a chat with Jason and enjoy a couple beers and feed at the club. The wind certainly made things challenging this weekend, but we still had a great turnout and saw some quality fish hit the scales!

The kingfish were safe, with the Qld Shade Heaviest Offshore Species prize going unclaimed. That means it jackpots to a massive $1,500 next month!

Allan returned from his holiday and wasted no time making his presence felt, claiming both the Brisbane Boating Courses and Squid and Co Heaviest Flathead prize and the Tackle Land Heaviest Other Species prize with a quality post-closure snapper.

The FINS Juniors also had a fantastic weekend. Nic and his family found a great patch of whiting and returned with an excellent bag. Nic managed some monster whiting, earning first place and $300, Blair also managed to get on the board with a very nice land based capture to claim second place and $100 thanks to Alamo Beer Company Australia!

Thomas claimed the Alamo Heaviest Other Species and $300, carried over from last month, with an impressive silver grunter, while young William wasn’t far behind, securing second place and $100 with a nice bream.

Andy kept the kids entertained and they even learned a few things, running a quiz all on Tailor.

Dr Barry Po***ck, former Director of Fisheries Queensland and current Scientific Officer with Sunfish Queensland, has been conducting a university-supported citizen science study into snapper breeding. With Fisheries permits allowing research during closed seasons and on undersized fish, he has previously completed similar studies on flathead and tailor. He has been coming along to all of our weigh-ins to sample the snapper caught to help determine their spawning habits in Moreton Bay.

There's good numbers of Tailor around at the moment and plenty of big sand whiting around the creek and river mouths. Who's getting the kids out this weekend for the Longest Tailor and Whiting double header? There's $1000 in prizes up for grabs!

If the target species isn’t caught, the prize will automatically revert to the Heaviest Fish Caught, so everyone has a chance to take home a prize!

📏 Tie Break Rule: If two fish measure the same length or weigh the same, the earliest time caught will determine the winner. So don’t forget to snap a photo.
