Alumni Spotlight
Bishop Druitt College alumnus Brandon Connor attended the College from 2000 to 2009, beginning in Kindergarten and developing a passion for golf during his early years at Coffs Harbour Golf Club.
In 2005, Brandon was voted Primary School Captain and also became the youngest junior golfer at Coffs Harbour Golf Club to record a hole-in-one. The following year, he won the club’s C Grade Championship. During Years 6 and 7, he reduced his golf handicap from 28 to 9 in just one year.
Throughout his time at BDC, Brandon represented the school at numerous events, including the NCSA Golf Championships in 2008 and 2009, the NSWCIS Golf Championships in Sydney, the NSW Interschool Golf Championships, and the All Schools Golf Challenge. He was also selected as one of three players to compete in the NSW Country Golfing Championships in Canberra.
After completing Year 10 at BDC in 2009, Brandon finished his HSC at CHEC. In 2010 and 2011, he represented both the North Coast and New South Wales in the Combined High School Golf Team before spending the following years competing in state and national amateur championships across Australia. This provided the opportunity to play on some of Australia’s premier courses alongside many of the nation’s top players.
In 2015, Brandon commenced a traineeship with the PGA of Australia. Over the next three years, he competed professionally across Australia and developed a passion for coaching. After completing his traineeship in 2018, he began coaching at Coffs Harbour Golf Club.
In 2024, Brandon moved into the role of Golf Operations Manager at South West Rocks Country Club before recently being appointed Head Professional at Sawtell Golf Club.
Brandon has now come full circle to assist with the BDC Golf Academy, bringing his experience and passion for the game back to the College where his golfing journey began. He is passionate about sharing the game that has provided him with numerous opportunities in life and helping players achieve their golfing goals.

Congratulations to Sawtell Golf-Club Member Logan Pethick.

Logan recently competed in the Australian Deaf Games, coming home with a Silver Medal!

Here is a run down from Logan about his experience at the games.

My deaf games experience

The Australian Deaf Game was held from the 5th to the 11th of July in Caloundra Qld. The game covered many different team and individual sports. With your much appreciated support, I participated in Golf, representing NSW.

My first day started with the opening ceremony for the deaf games. I was nervous at first because while essentially being born deaf, I have cochlear implants that gives me the ability to hear and speak. I have never used sign language and was unsure of how I was going to communicate with people, some who only used sign language.

On Sunday I played an Ambros round, still nervous especially when we played it was without my cochlear implants to comply with the international deaf rules. I must admit I found the quiet was comforting because and I was able to just focus on me and my game.

Monday and Tuesday were the individual stroke rounds. The first round took a bit to settled in my game and resulted in 102 off the stick. The second day proved better, and I managed to drop 10 strokes to come in at 92. These combined scores, minus my handicap resulted in a NET score of 147 and winning a silver medal. I also managed to win long drive on two holes.

My experience for going to this event was amazing to say the least. All participants and supporters were so welcoming and helped me navigate my first Deaf Games. I have made many new friends and look forward to competing again the future. I have been strongly encouraged to attend the National Deaf Golf Open in May next year to try out for selection the Australian National Deaf Golf team.

The Women's Golf Central North Coast (WGCNC) Pennant season for 2026 has concluded with Sawtell winning the Northern Division, winning five out of six of their matches.

This qualified them to play in the final against Taree, the winner of the Southern Division, on Monday 15th June at Kempsey. Taree won the final 4/1.

Sawtell Golf Club's team for the season included:
Joy Lawrence, Sharon Shipman, Jackie Chapman, Charmaine Edwards, Georgia Perkins, Annie Waters, Gaye Hardcastle, Margie Gill, Rhonda Cooper, Maureen Ryan, Brenda Connors, Sandra Guymer, Paula Sercombe and Sue Flint.
