Today (Sunday 23 August) four paddlers took part in a River Run time trial on the Elliott River.

Conditions were close to perfect although there was a slight southerly wind.

Loz Stephenson took the lead after Greg Jetnikoff started early and set a pace for everyone else to follow, with Bob Beezley putting in a great effort after identifying a small injury.

It was a great opportunity to practice paddling techniques and improve stroke efficiency.

Once again, Loz Stephenson took the lead and stayed there without much bother from Johnny Zirilli coming in second, Greg Jetnikoff coming in third with Bob Beezley finishing the run with Loz keeping him company.

Johnny Zirilli, Greg Jetnikoff and Bob Beezley set their best times for the 2026-27 season.

The biggest event for the 4670 SUP CLUB INC 2026 year finally arrived - the Clearwater Classic on the Elliott River!

Beautiful sunny conditions greeted 37 paddlers from all three Queensland SUP clubs (4670 SUP CLUB INC, Sunshine Coast Sup Club and Brisbane SUP Club) on Sunday 2 August 2026 who turned up to test their longer distance flatwater skills and experience for the first of the Sunshine Coast Boardsports Tri-series.

18 paddlers took on the longer and more picturesque 10km course with 19 paddlers giving the 5km course a good crack.

With the incoming tide still running, the 10km paddlers took off heading upstream at 10:40am with the 5km paddlers 10 minutes later.

Winds picked up from the south east of about 20km making the upstream paddle a little challenging but racing is adapting to all these weather conditions.

For the 10km race, Loz Stephenson took the lead and never looked back, once again setting the pace, with Brett Swann coming in second and Julie S Mith finishing strong in third with Clint Jensen hot on her heels.

The 5km race was also strongly contested with Shane Lynch first across the line, with Ian Fenemore paddling hard for second and closely followed by Adam Norfolk in third.

The 4670 SUP Club congratulates all the paddlers who achieved a first, second or third in their age division but also wanted to shout out to all the first time paddlers who took this on as a personal challenge to complete the race in whatever distance they competed !B-)

The 4670 SUP CLUB also wanted to give a big recognition and thank you to 4670 Sup Club member Sondra Anderson for her dedication to taking photos and cheering on all the paddlers who crossed the finish line, with her effort rewarded with sunburn on her feet !!!

The club also appreciated the effort by the Bundaberg Regional Council staff who ensured the facilities at the event site were clean and well stocked, to Scott Michael Sharples and Peter Winton from Paddle Queensland for their support and the amazing raffle prizes of two inflatable SUPs and paddles, and to the Ian and his crew from the Elliott Heads Surf Lifesaving Club for providing wonderful bacon and egg rolls to fill the bellies of the hungry competitors after the race.

And finally to all the people who helped setup and pack away the equipment leaving the site spotless once the event was finished, your assistance is always greatly appreciated.

On Saturday 1 August 2026 the 4670 SUP CLUB held the first part of the Clearwater Classic weekend with a tech race/Battle of the Paddle (BOP) at Elliott Heads beach.

Conditions were a bit rough and wobbly with strong south easterly winds and gave a few paddlers brave enough to venture out the opportunity to test their skills in the ocean and waves.

13 paddlers combined from the 4670 SUP CLUB INC, the Sunshine Coast Sup Club and the Brisbane SUP Club completed the event and all admitted they enjoyed the challenge, some paddling a BOP race for the very first time!

A big thank you to Scott and Peter from Paddle Queensland for timing the race and to Chris McDowell for taking photos on the day

Wanted to say a big thank you to all 4670 SUP CLUB members who participated and volunteered.

I also wanted to thank Graham Shield for providing his boat and Trineey Elliott Michael Medlock and Riley for the use and driving the safety boats as we couldn't run the event without your support.

Thank you so much for the fantastic work and effort ❤️

The CWC tech race was held in some trying conditions at Elliott Heads beach but 15 brave paddlers took to the water after a briefing from Loz Stephenson.

3 laps were taken around an 'M' course with the south easterly giving a bit of a challenge and testing paddlers on their ocean skills.

A big congratulations to all paddlers who took part and to those who came away with a podium finish.

There were a couple of situations on the water and the club wanted to shout out to Paul Stumer and Loz Stephenson for their dedication and rescue skills and effort.

A big thank you to Chris McDowell for assisting with registrations and taking photos. And to Greg Jetnikoff for also coming down and helping with registrations, and to Sondra Anderson for her spotting skills and showing support to event paddlers. And an extra thanks to Paul Stumer for setting up the course and being the go to member by deciding to forego the opportunity to paddle.

The club also appreciated the assistance and positive attitude for all the Sunshine Coast Sup Club and Brisbane SUP Club members who all arrived early to help setup, then pack up all the equipment in cold conditions.

And to Scott and Peter from Paddle Queensland for assisting with the timing
