At our AGM last week the club said good bye to Kathy Nelson who has retired from her position as Club Secretary. Kathy has been the backbone of the club for over 25 years. Her years of volunteer service are truly remarkable and Port Adelaide Athletics Club will forever be in her debt.
The club was on the verge of collapse when she joined, barely enough members to remain affiliated with Athletics SA and in financial trouble. Kathy has played a big part in ensuring the future of PAAC is rock solid.
Here is a brief history of her time at the club:
2010 became a part of the club
2011 - 2012 Secretary
2012-2013 President
2013-2014 President
2014-2015 Athletics Manager
2015-2016 Fundraising Manager & Social Co-ordinator
2015 Formed Aboriginal Squad along with Lele Snderson
2016-2017 Athletic Manager
2017-2026 Secretary
2019 One club steering committee that saw West Lakes and Districts Little Athletics Centre and Port Adelaide Athletics Club come together. Kathy did a lot of work on the constitution.
2019 Awarded OAM for her contribution to sport.
Kathy was a key figure working with the City of PAE that saw the club take full occupancy of the clubs base and it's redevelopment.
2020 Life Membership of PAAC
2024 PAAC Gym named - Kathy Nelson Gym
2025 Port Adelaide Enfield Council Older Citizen of the Year
From everyone, thank you for your contribution to the club.
