Press Up Handstand Journey šŸ¤øā€ā™€ļø

This video was meant to be a simple progress report:
lifting from a bench, moving away from the wall,
working on the return, rebuilding strength and control.

After 2 babies, it’s muscle memory.
It’s rebuilding. It’s reminding my body of something it’s done before.

I was going to cut out the falls.
The wobbles.
The quiet moments in between.

But watching them back, I realised how important they are too. The frustration. The pause. The reset. The internal dialogue.

Shift your weight.
Fingers are your brakes.
Engage your core.
Clear your mind.
You’ve got this.
Don’t try so hard.
See it in your mind.
You can do this.
You’ve done it before.

And maybe that’s the lesson beyond the mat —
the way we speak to ourselves while finding our way back, or trying something new, matters just as much as the end result. šŸ¤

🪷 Pincha Mayurasana. My old friend. It’s been an age.

Time to get off the wall and find this pose again.

Back in the day this was kind of my signature pose. I’ve been doing it at the wall for a while now, and it’s amazing how your mind talks you out of free-standing.

But the strength is still there. So today, here it is in real time 🫶

🌼Some exciting news: I'm now on the cover list Flolo Studio | Yoga | Pilates | Barre and looking forward to teaching some face to face classes soon 🫶

Benefits of Melting Heart Pose / Puppy Pose / Anahata Asana šŸ’š

šŸ’šShoulders + upper back
It opens the front of your shoulders and chest where we hold all that ā€œbaby-carryingā€ tightness. Helps undo the hunched-over-feeding posture without forcing anything.

šŸ’šSpine + neck
Keeps hips above knees so your lower back stays safe. The long reach through your arms gives your whole spine a gentle traction. Forehead down takes pressure off your neck.

šŸ’šHeart + chest
ā€œAnahataā€ means heart centre. Physically it stretches the chest muscles and fascia. Emotionally a lot of people feel it releases grief, stress, or that heavy ā€œI’m holding it allā€ feeling. That’s why it’s called Melting Heart.

šŸ’šNervous system
Forehead or chin on the floor is a calming position. It signals your body you’re safe. Slower breathing here naturally drops you out of fight-or-flight. Feels like a reset.

šŸ’šHips + thighs
Because hips stay stacked over knees, you get a subtle stretch through the hip flexors and thighs too. Good after sitting, feeding, or standing with baby on hip.

šŸ’šBest part for tired mums: You don’t have to ā€œdoā€ anything. You just melt and let gravity work. It’s rest + stretch at the same time.

Eka Pada Vasisthasana āž”ļø Hanumanasana āž”ļø and back again šŸ˜…

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøWhat I've been practicing lately, day by day, slow and steady — why do we practice these postures and transitions? It's much more than just building strength:

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøCultivates Focus: Transitioning from a side plank toe hold directly into front splits is a massive test of coordination. You have to pivot your hips and shift your weight seamlessly without losing your grip or your balance. Because you can’t rush or fake your way through it, the movement completely clears your mind and forces you into the present moment.

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøTeaches Patience: This sequence is incredibly tough, and it usually involves plenty of wobbles and missed steps before it clicks. Controlling the slow slide down into splits—and then finding the strength to pull that leg all the way back up—takes time. It really highlights the value of self-discipline (tapas) and embracing the messy process of building strength.

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøBreaks Mental Barriers: Your brain's natural reaction when suspended on one arm holding your foot is to panic and resist the stretch. Stepping through that hesitation and breathing into the opening helps you push past mental blocks. Managing the return journey back up builds a deep confidence in what your body can actually handle.
