💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Kit Check is more than just checking your uniform, it’s an important step that ensures every athlete competes fairly and safely.

Before competition officials will inspect your clothing and equipment to make sure it meets WPPO regulations and competition standards.

📌 Remember if you plan to wear or use it during competition it must be presented during kit check.

Unlike many Paralympic sports, Para Powerlifting does NOT separate athletes into multiple competition classes.

Athletes are first assessed to determine whether they meet the eligibility criteria.

Once eligible, athletes compete in bodyweight categories where codes of exception (COE) may be used to ensure technical rules are applied fairly.

In Para Powerlifting, every lift begins and ends with the Chief Referee’s commands. Listening and responding correctly is essential for a successful lift. ✔️

▶️ START
The ‘Start’ command is given once the athlete is in the correct position and ready to lift.

You will hear ‘Start’ while the referee gives a downward arm signal.

🔚 RACK
Once the lift has been completed, (or if the referee believes the lift can no longer be completed safely) the Chief Referee gives the ‘Rack’ command.

The rack command signals the athlete and spotter loaders to return the bar to the rack.

⭐️Knowing these commands gives athletes confidence when competing and helps to ensure every lift is judged consistently, safely, and fairly.

🇳🇬 thanks Folashade for the unforgettable Paralympic memories. 🙌

With just 28 days to go until Glasgow 2026 we wanted to share a closer look at one of the most powerful sports on the Commonwealth Games program.

Unlike other international Para Powerlifting competitions, where athletes compete in individual body weight categories. The Commonwealth Games features just two medal divisions.

➡️ Light weight (male and female)
➡️ Heavy weight (male and female)

A coefficient formula is used to compare the weight lifted vs the athlete’s bodyweight. This determines the ‘strongest’ lift. 💪

We will be sharing more on our Para Powerlifting Australia team, how to watch, and everything you need to know as we count down to Glasgow 2026! 🇦🇺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
