It’s Migraine Awareness Month, and this often debilitating condition affects approximately 4.9 million Australians.
For people living with migraine, the impacts can vary from person to person. There are a variety of treatment options available. Physiotherapy can be a useful management option for some people with migraine.
Everyone experiences migraine differently. A physiotherapist will listen, assess and work collaboratively with you to structure an individualised management plan. This may include detailed advice and education related to your migraine, hands on treatment and exercise therapy.Understanding migraines and recognising what aggravates and relieves them can be an important step toward managing this condition.
If you suffer from migraine, our friendly team may be able to assist.

Here are three easy stretches you could try. We suggest stopping every 90 minutes to have a movement break.
1. Hip flexor stretch Step one foot back into a gentle lunge, keep your chest tall and gently push your hips forward to feel a stretch at the front of the of your back leg.
2. Hamstring stretch Rest one heel on a curb or step. While keeping your leg straight, hinge forward from your hips to stretch the back of the leg.
3. Standing spinal twist Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart. Gently twist your upper body to one side while keeping your hips facing forward. Stop when you feel a light stretch through your back, then return to centre and repeat on the other side.
Hold each stretch for as long as feels comfortable, move slowly, and listen to your body. Stop immediately if you feel any pain, and consult a physiotherapist for more individualised advice.Stay safe on the roads!

The first step to anything is preparation, and sport is no exception! But when it comes to warming up, it can be hard to know what to do.
The key is in the phrase warm-up. You want to get your body moving, and warm up those muscles to help reduce the risk of injury.
To do this, focus on movement. You want to get your blood pumping and elevate your heartrate gradually. Think skipping, speed walking, jogging (it can be on the spot) or anything else that gets you moving. You can then follow this with more high-intensity exercises, and additional movements that activate specific muscle groups, such as your core, glutes or quads.
Don’t overthink it!
