In Swanbourne Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club’s 93 year history, just 38 members have performed such outstanding service they have been awarded Life Membership. This season the 38th Life Membership was awarded to… Leesa Equid 🎉
Leesa joined Swanny on Open Day in October 2009. She earned her Bronze Medallion just seven weeks later and never looked back.
A doctor by profession, Leesa has transformed Swanny’s education and lifesaving programs across 16 seasons. As Higher Awards Officer, First Aid Officer, Skills Maintenance Officer and TAF Officer numerous times each, she has trained and mentored a generation of members. She introduced methoxyflurane pain management, chaired our COVID-19 Advisory Sub-Committee, and this season served as SLSA’s national Implementation Lead for the rollout of Lifesaving-CPR — rewriting national training manuals and guiding members at Swanny and beyond through the introduction. A dual winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award, Leesa’s contribution is simply unmatched.
In lifesaving, Leesa has patrolled over 400 hours, earned her Gold Medallion, and served as Patrol Captain for seven seasons — including mentoring others through the inaugural Junior Patrol Captain pathway. She served seven seasons on the SLSWA Board and as SLSWA Honorary Medical Officer, and was crowned SLSWA DHL Lifesaver of the Year in 2015.
In competition, Leesa has claimed nine Club Champion Lifesaver titles, been State Champion Lifesaver, State Champion in First Aid and Champion Patrol, and claimed Bronze at the Australian Open First Aid Championships. She was awarded the Patron’s Award for the Single Most Outstanding Achievement in 2013/14 for Excellence in Lifesaving and First Aid Competition.
Congratulations Leesa, now also a SNSLSC Life Member🏅

In Swanbourne Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club’s 93 year history, just 37 members have performed such outstanding service they have been awarded Life Membership. This season the 37th Life Membership was awarded to… Paul Lippiatt 🎉
Paul — known to all as Lippo — joined Swanny on 17 March 1988 as a 16-year-old and earned his Bronze Medallion that October. Over the next nine seasons he averaged 30 patrol hours a season, serving as Patrol Captain for four seasons at a time when the Club had just 50 active lifesavers and every member carried a heavy load. Lippo’s rescues, including a drowning victim and spinal incident, were worthy of considerable merit.
Lippo was the driving force behind Swanny’s IRB racing program in the 90s, winning the full set of State medals in a single season in 1994/95. Today Lippo is the devoted sweep for the Donkeys, our Masters Women’s crew.
After returning to Swanny in 2014 with wife Tracy and their three children, Lippo threw himself into the Nipper program as an Age Group Manager. Towing the trailer each Sunday, inspiring Nippers, and packing up after every session. And somehow maintaining a close personal friendship with Santa — arranging the jolly man in red’s annual shorebreak arrival each December with characteristic enthusiasm.
But it’s who Lippo is, not just what he does. As well as being one of the biggest characters on the beach he’s also the bloke who quietly takes on the unglamorous tasks that keep a club running — maintaining boats and motors in the shed, always where he’s needed, never seeking recognition. There’s no one at Swanny more deserving.
Congratulations Lippo, now a SNSLSC Life Member!🏅
