While the competitions were unforgettable, the biggest takeaway wasn't the events themselves—it was the opportunity to immerse herself in training.

"The main highlight for me was actually not the competitions. Don’t get me wrong Adelaide and Melbourne are very special events to be a part of, but the real highlight was getting to base and train Stuart Tinney for the month leading into Melbourne. Being able to just focus on the horses and their training and having Stuart there constantly giving feedback, sharpening my focus and improving my riding was so incredibly valuable."

A key part of that experience was making the switch to the new Bates Apex saddle. Kate was incredibly happy with her Bates Advanta and equally dubious of the new Apex, so it took some convincing to get her to even try the Apex, but one ride turned into another and it ended up joining the campaign East!

"The thing about a good saddle is that you don't even notice it's there. It allows you to remain balanced at all times, especially on those tricky landings or quick turns. I love my Bates Advanta, and I wasn't even going to try the Apex, but I'm incredibly grateful to Verity for insisting I sit in it. Wow."
