Day 2 at the Australian National Championships saw Sensei Hannah and Nathaniel step onto the tatami with outstanding performances.
We are thrilled to celebrate Sensei Hannah, who claimed her fifth consecutive Australian National Championship in the Female +68 kg Kumite division. This remarkable achievement marks the longest winning streak by any athlete at the Australian National Championships.
Nathaniel also fought brilliantly throughout the day, earning the Silver Medal in the Junior Male -68 kg Kumite division. An outstanding performance and a fantastic result.
A special congratulations to Sensei Brian, who had the privilege of coaching both athletes on the day.
Congratulations to everyone on your incredible achievements. We are proud of you all!

A massive day in Hobart as Zali and Mathias represented Western Australia for the very first time at the National Karate Championships! 🥋✈️After solid performances in the morning Kata, they moved on to the afternoon Kumite:🔸 Zali secured a brilliant second-round win, pushed through a tough quarter-final, and fought right to the end in a very close Bronze medal match.🔸 Mathias bounced back after a narrow second-round loss to the eventual winner, fighting beautifully through the repechage to secure a well-deserved Bronze medal! 🥉Huge congratulations to you both—what an outstanding achievement on the national stage! 🌟👏

Huge congratulations to all of our students who graded successfully this weekend. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance were evident throughout the day, and you should all be very proud of your achievements.
Unfortunately, Sensei Eric was unable to attend on Saturday, so we extend our sincere thanks to Sensei Hannah and Nathaniel for conducting the gradings and ensuring the day ran so smoothly.
Grading days are one of the highlights of our year. While receiving a new belt is always exciting, the real value of our grading system is the opportunity for every student to receive constructive feedback on their progress. Every grading identifies strengths to build upon and areas for continued improvement, giving students clear goals for the next stage of their karate journey. It is this cycle of learning, feedback and development that helps build not only better karate, but also resilience, confidence and a growth mindset that extends well beyond the dojo.
For parents considering joining their children on the mats, karate offers a unique opportunity to share that journey together. We would encourage you to give one of the adult sessions a trial.
Finally, a very special thank you to Shelley for the tremendous amount of work she does behind the scenes. From organising belts and grading administration to preparing fresh fruit for the children, so much of today's success was made possible through her hard work and dedication. Thank you, Shelley. We truly appreciate everything you do.

Went into this one knowing it wasn’t ideal and it nearly didn’t happen. Back issues that took me out for months, along with multiple rapidly progressing bone stress injuries in the arch of my foot, meant the lead-up was anything but smooth. After 8 weeks in a moon boot, endless strapping, laser bone therapy, vibration therapy, and joint mobilisation, it took a lot to be on the tatami.
I changed my style, adapted where I had to, and still made it to the quarter-finals. Some say it was silly of me 🤷🏼♀️, but more importantly, I’m glad I got to be there for my team. It’s a nice reminder that it’s not all about the result. It’s about being there for the people beside you, celebrating them, and contributing whatever you can ❤️
Thank you, of course, to for making sure I looked fab on the tatami!
And thank you to the girls for listening to my pros-and-cons list on fighting, which I didn’t listen to anyway 😘 .nguynen
