A Fi****ms Prohibition Is Only as Strong as the Enforcement System Behind It
An August 24, 2026, shooting in Langley, BC, left one person seriously injured and produced a charge list that demands the attention of every government claiming to put public safety first. Anthony Albanese is personally giving One Nation less than half the parliamentary adviser support per MP allocated to the Greens, while simultaneously calling One Nation “dangerous” and demanding Labor defeat its political rise.
One Nation now has six federal parliamentarians sharing just four personal advisers, or 0.67 per MP. The Greens have 11 parliamentarians and 17 advisers, or 1.55 each. Pauline Hanson has asked Albanese for nine positions, which would still leave One Nation fractionally below the Greens’ staffing ratio.
This is not an independent Remuneration Tribunal formula Albanese is powerless to change. Under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act, the Prime Minister determines personal staff allocations for minority parties, and there is no publicly available formula explaining how those numbers are decided. Hanson wrote requesting more staff on 11 August and has also demanded Albanese disclose the criteria behind the disparity.
The imbalance becomes harder to defend when Albanese himself has 59 personal advisers and his government employs 504 across the ministry. One Nation is not demanding preferential treatment. It is asking for comparable staffing to another parliamentary minor party while its six MPs handle a rapidly growing national constituency.
Albanese can attack One Nation politically all he likes. What he should not be able to do without explanation is exercise personal control over taxpayer-funded parliamentary resources in a way that leaves his fastest-growing opponent operating with less than half the Greens’ adviser ratio. If the allocation is fair, publish the formula. If there is no objective formula, Australians are entitled to see this for what it looks like: a Prime Minister using a discretionary power that directly disadvantages the political rival now threatening his government.
