😁 Some people have hobbies. Some people have therapists.
We have horses!! 😂

Expensive? Yes.
Inconvenient? Often.
Would we trade it? Not a chance. ❤️

We see this all the time. It is so wonderful to be able to work with horses and see the support they provide

🐴 The research is straightforward: children with ADHD who participate in equine-assisted activities show measurable improvements in attention, impulse control, and self-regulation — often within weeks of starting. The less obvious question is why.

Part of the answer is the horse itself. Horses are immediate and honest. They respond to what you're doing right now, not what you did five minutes ago. A child who can't sit still at a desk discovers that a horse requires exactly the kind of focused, present-moment attention that medication or therapy is trying to build. The horse becomes a reason to regulate, because the horse makes it clear — gently, without judgment — when the child isn't.

Part of the answer is the body. Riding engages core muscles and balance systems in ways that activate neurological pathways involved in attention. The rhythmic movement of a horse at walk has been shown to affect brain activity in measurable ways.

And part of the answer, honestly, is that it's interesting. A horse is more interesting than a worksheet. A twelve-year-old who is impossible to engage in a classroom will stay focused on a horse for an hour without being asked twice.

Have you seen a horse help a child who was struggling to connect elsewhere?

Horses are social creatures that live in a herd for their own safety. When we spend a lot of time with a horse we become part of their heard, so it’s important that they feel they can trust us.

We are super excited to roll out out new student training scale to students this term.

The aim of this is to help students to understand what skills they need to develop to progress their riding, and to provide a structured process for supporting our students grow as riders

Each level has 25 skills that must be demonstrated on three different horses, before the student can progress onto the next level.

Each level builds on the previous and shows that learning to ride is a constant process of improving and learning new skills

Whatever your goal, finding the motivation to take that first step and then keep the momentum is always hard.

Yes anyone who has ever achieved their goals will tell you, consistent action makes things happen.

What are you going to achieve…..

One thing I've learned over the years is this...

Motivation is a feeling. And feelings come and go.

Some mornings you'll wake up excited to ride, train, study, go to the gym or chase your goals.

Other mornings you'll feel tired. Overwhelmed. Doubtful. Maybe even wonder why you started.

That's completely normal.

If we only act when we feel motivated, we'll spend more time waiting than growing.

Discipline isn't about being hard on yourself. It's about making a commitment to the future version of you.

It's showing up when nobody is watching. It's doing the boring bits. It's getting back on after a disappointing result. It's poo picking in the rain, setting the alarm at 2.45am for a show, squeezing in a ride after work, or reading one more chapter when your brain says "not today."

The funny thing is...

Action often creates motivation..

not the other way around.

So if today you don't feel motivated, don't panic.

Just take the next small step.

Your future self will thank you for the consistency you showed on the days you didn't feel like it. 💚

Horses need to be with other horses. We are passionate about herd living and ensuring our horses are allowed to be horses

Through human domestication, horses have strayed so far from how they are meant to exist.

As a result, we see a far higher amount of stress behaviours, health issues, behavioural problems and more in domesticated horses.

Colic rates are far greater in horses who spend a lot of time in confinement and isolation.

Stall vices like cribbing and weaving have not been documented in free roaming feral horses and are consistently seen in far higher quantities in stables horses.

Horses who lack turnout tend to be more explosive, unpredictable and dangerous to handle.

Horses who do not get space to move on a regular basis in their free time are far more prone to soft tissue injury than horses who have access to adequate space.

Isolated horses see a lowered immune response.

Study after study for DECADES has consistently painted a picture of the reality for horses:

Confinement and isolation is damaging for herd animals.

And, yet, it is still commonplace for many horses to be stabled for 18-24 hours a day.

Many horses exist without ever having access to social turnout.

One of the most core features of who they are as a species — denied.

The time for a paradigm shift is long overdue.

Many of the issues humans experience with horses could be resolved completely or reduced in frequency and intensity simply by providing more species appropriate care.

We need to do better by horses.

Now is the time to discuss how to realistically apply needed changes to promote better welfare for horses.
