LMRWA Celebrates Champions!

The Late Model Racing Western Australia community came together on a beautiful Saturday night at the Swan Yacht Club to celebrate another outstanding season, with drivers, teams, sponsors, officials, volunteers, and supporters recognised at the annual LMRWA Awards Night.

The evening commenced with a season highlights video before host Josh Starling welcomed attendees and reflected on another successful year for the category.

Acknowledgements were made to the LMRWA committee, season sponsors, partner tracks, and the many volunteers whose efforts continue to drive the division forward.

One of the night's first presentations was the CEO Award, which was jointly awarded to Wendy Pickering and Jason Sutton in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the category throughout the season.

The 2025 Winter Series podium was also recognised, with Beau Oldfield finishing third, Ewan Dickson second, and Jay Bassanelli crowned Winter Series Champion.

The AJN Pursuit of Excellence Award was presented to a young competitor who embodied everything the award represents. Recognising professionalism, commitment, clean racing, and continual improvement, Beau Oldfield was praised for arriving in the division and immediately setting the benchmark in all aspects of their racing.

Abbey Pickering was recognised as the Quiet Achiever Award recipient, acknowledging her consistent efforts and contributions throughout the season.

After an impressive debut campaign, Beau Oldfield was named Rookie of the Year, while Mat Robbins claimed the Best Presented Car and Crew Award, recognising the professionalism and presentation standards maintained by his team throughout the year.

A major highlight of the evening was the introduction of the inaugural LMRWA Life Memberships, honouring four individuals whose contributions have helped shape Late Model racing in Western Australia.

Ben Ludlow was recognised for his foundational role in establishing the category, his leadership as both Marketing Manager and CEO, and his outstanding record as a competitor, including the first Late Model heat race win in Australian history and a Pro Dirt Series Championship.

Jeff Halliday was honoured for more than two decades of service to the category, including his work as General Manager, Technical Manager, team owner, and mentor. His technical expertise and dedication have played a vital role in the professionalism and growth of Late Model racing in WA.

Bob Chalmers was posthumously awarded Life Membership in recognition of his immense contribution as a founding member, inaugural Chief Steward, administrator, mentor, and supporter of the sport. His influence continues to be felt throughout the division, particularly through the prestigious Drivers Driver Award that he donated and which remains one of the category's most respected honours.

Chris Cardy completed the inaugural Life Membership inductees. A founding member and the Association's inaugural CEO, Cardy's contributions as an administrator, team owner, mentor, and leading car constructor have left an enduring legacy on the category.

The achievements of Kye Blight were also recognised, with the Bunbury driver celebrated for securing both the WA Late Model Championship and Australian Late Model Championship during an extraordinary season.

Beau Oldfield's impressive year continued when he received the Chief Steward's Award, while veteran competitor Warren Oldfield was voted the recipient of the coveted Drivers Driver Award by his fellow racers once again.

Another major announcement during the evening generated significant excitement for the future, with Paul Davies unveiling Canning Vale Toyota as the naming rights partner of the 2026/27 Late Model Pro Dirt Series. The announcement marks a significant boost for the category and further strengthens the future of Western Australian Late Model racing, with the support of a respected Western Australian business helping elevate the state's premier Late Model championship, which will be officially known as the Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series.

The evening concluded with recognition of the top twenty performers in the 2025/26 Late Model Pro Dirt Series standings.

The top five received special recognition, with Michael Holmes finishing fifth overall, and Jay Cardy securing fourth. Warren Oldfield claimed third place, Beau Oldfield finished runner-up, and Joe Chalmers was crowned the 2025/26 Late Model Pro Dirt Series Champion following a remarkable season of consistency and performance.

The annual Awards Night once again highlighted the strength of the Late Model community, celebrating not only the champions on the racetrack but also the volunteers, officials, sponsors, and supporters who continue to ensure the category thrives.

With the announcement of new support for the Pro Dirt Series and another successful season now complete, attention will soon turn toward what promises to be an exciting 2026/27 campaign.

A huge thankyou to everyone who was with us
and we cant wait to kick it off all again.
