Amazing morning on the water with the squad today. It’s been so good seeing the crew getting bigger and bigger, with more people joining us and getting out on the water together.
Nothing beats starting the day with a great group of people, some fresh air and time on the water. We’re loving the energy, the laughs and seeing this little crew continue to grow.
Bring on summer — we can’t wait for even more mornings like this!

On Sunday 23 August, we had three new RWC Operators successfully complete their assessments. Congratulations to Jess Cox, Cristina Davini and JT Snook!
The RWC Operator Course is a demanding qualification that typically requires 60+ hours of total commitment with mandatory trainee hours, and personal study. Participants should expect regular weekend sessions over a 10-week period, practical assessments, physical work in the surf, and learning 7 different rescues. Success requires commitment, reliability, and a willingness to put in significant time both during and between training sessions. Congratulations are definitely in order.
That also brings us to an impressive 12 RWC Operators across the Club — an even dozen and a great achievement for our growing program.
There was more good news... Jamie Gilbert has completed his trainee Trainer program and is now officially a RWC Trainer. Congratulations, Jamie!
Thank you to Floreat SLSC, Michael Brooks (Lead Trainer), and Sorrento SLSC, Richard Elderfield (Assessor) for their support and knowledge.

During a recent training session, our squad spotted a man in distress in the water and immediately alerted coach Cam.
The athletes were preparing to begin their paddle warm-up when Cam quickly responded, sending Lexi to assist the swimmer. The man had initially been partially assisted by a surfer, who was also struggling in the rip.
Lexi reached the swimmer and helped him regain his breath before being joined by Ollie. Together, they worked to get him safely onto Ollie’s board and paddled through the waves back to shore.
Once safely on the beach, the man was understandably exhausted. After checking in with him, it was confirmed that, apart from fatigue, he was okay. He was extremely grateful for the assistance and asked that his thanks be passed on to the club.
The swimmer, a Kallaroo local who has been swimming at the beach for around 20 years, explained that he had come further north on this occasion to avoid the seaweed.
He was so grateful for the rescue.
A huge well done to Lexi and Ollie, who remained calm, worked together and put their training into action exactly as they had been taught.
It’s moments like these that demonstrate the importance of regular training and the skills our athletes develop through surf lifesaving. Well done, Lexi and Ollie!
