Champions rising out of Penrith-based judo club • The Western Weekender Athletes from Kokoro Judo Club in Penrith have returned from the Gold Coast not with holiday memories but with medals around their necks.

🥋 Kokoro Judo Coaching results at the Australian National Judo Championships! 🥋

This weekend we headed to the Gold Coast for the Australian Nationals, and we couldn’t be prouder of our two young warriors!

Alex🥇 became the Australian Champion after winning the Under 15 / Under 45kg division. He looked incredibly strong throughout the competition, proving once again why he’s one of the best in his category.

Jacob Raphael knew he had a tough match on the day as his division had 20 players from 15 to 17 years of age. It was Jacob’s first year as a cadet with chokes and arm bars now introduced. In an incredible show of heart and determination, Jacob fought through the bronze medal match after breaking his big toe joint and showed absolute warrior spirit to win the match earning him a bronze medal 🥉

We are so proud of both athletes — not just for their results, but for the way they represented themselves, their club, and their honour and spirit on the mat.

Massive congratulations Alexander and Jacob! 👏 You’ve made Kokoro Judo Coaching proud.

Big congratulations to two of our Kokoro Judo athletes who competed at the 2026 NSW State Titles today!

Alex claimed the gold and is the new U15 Boys / U45kg NSW Champion and displayed some quality judo today.

Penny also fought brilliantly in the tough Cadet Women division and brought home a Silver medal in her very first major tournament – such a proud moment!

Both Alex and Penny embodied the Judo moral code through their consistent work ethic at practice, positive attitude, respect for opponents, and courage on the mat. We’re incredibly proud of how they represent our club both in competition and in training every day.
