Our lovely Phyo is bending over backwards to support your Ashtanga Vinyasa journey 🙌🙏🔥

Led Primary
Sundays 4pm and Thursdays 6am

Some Yoga experience needed, but not necessarily Ashtanga.
The sequencing and repetition of the led classes are a great way to learn and progress in this powerful practice ✨🙏✨

We slightly tweaked the name of our Friday afternoon class (from Restore) to better reflect the experience. Sometimes it will be about restoration, sometimes it will be about integration, but most importantly - creating the space to tune in and discover what will bring you back to balance. ☯️

Beginning with time and space to tune in, withdraw from the external environment and sensory stimulation and simply be in the moment and feel.
This may take the form of a short period of sitting, or a Savasana practice at the beginning of the class rather than only at the end. 🪷

During this time, the truth of where you are at may be revealed. If you come out of this practice refreshed and ready to go, then movement may be your practice that day. ☀️
If you feel you could stay the whole class in Savasana, or passive practice, then that might be where you’ll stay. We have in the past had students who literally come in to stay in Savasana the whole time - and on occasion, it can be perfect (eg if recovering from illness, stress or injury, or have had very little sleep). 🌙

You may still need a little more exploration, so the salutes begin. As well as being a wonderful way to warm up the body and help to stimulate the bodys natural detoxification processes and lymphatic movement - salutes can also be a fantastic diagnostic tool. As you move through the salute a couple of things can happen... if you feel better, and more energised with each repetition - then you may have some excess Kapha/stagnation making you feel tired - so movement is the antidote. If you start to feel more tired from the salutes - you may be a little “burnt out” and need to go back to restorative practice.

Sometimes the need for restoration/movement can change after a short time. So you are welcome to change paths.

Something beautiful happened today 🌸
We welcomed Ros Lim to the GCYC teaching schedule ✨

Ros is taking over Danny’s Monday 6am time-slot and we’re grateful to those Monday regulars who showed up to welcome her to the space and and help her find her ground 🌸🙏🌸
She was a little nervous taking over from such a loved teacher, but we feel sure you’ll grow to love her too, and we are very thankful to have her beautiful caring heart and energy in the Yoga room to continue the journey of growth and exploration of Yoga together 💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏💗

As today (August 20) marks the anniversary of BKS Iyengar’s passing, we take time to pause and reflect on the legacy he left us. 🙏

His seminal book “Light on Yoga” became a practitioner’s “bible” and many admire the elegance, strength and openness of his advanced asana practice well into old age. For me, the greatest gift of all was the time and depth of knowledge and insight he acquired into even the “simplest” poses like Savasana and Tadasana. Exploring the foundations of the postures guided so many of us to grow our roots before aiming high, giving the poses profound depth, meaning and freedom. He opened up the channels of communication between body and consciousness through observation and by using props that allowed us to watch energy move without being under duress.

I’m grateful he shone his light on the path for as long as he did. ✨🙏✨
