Last week, our Women’s team battled it out against Frankston in the Elimination Final, coming away with a hard-fought 1–0 victory and booking their spot in the Preliminary Final! 🔥

And now… we’re one game away from a Grand Final! 👀🏑

This is the first time in Cardinia Storm Hockey Club history that our Women’s team has progressed to a Preliminary Final. What an achievement! 💙

Mens Elimination Final:

Storm came out of the blocks strongly, with storms defensive gang setting the tone early and putting plenty of pressure on Monash. Unfortunately, Monash managed to find the back of the net in the second quarter from an aerial ball, giving them the lead.

From there, it was all Storm.

The boys lifted the intensity and created plenty of opportunities, including finishing the game with four short corners. Unfortunately, Monash’s defence stood strong when it mattered most, keeping Storm off the scoreboard and holding onto their lead.

Women’s Elimination Final:
What a fight from our Women’s team, coming away with a 1–0 win over Frankston in the elimination final! 💪🔥

From the opening whistle, the girls came out strong, moving the ball with confidence and letting it do the work. The team controlled large periods of the game, keeping play in the attacking half for more than 75% of the match.
But don’t think the defensive unit was left out of the action! 🛡️ Our backline stood strong throughout, working hard to shut down Frankston’s opportunities and holding their shape under pressure.
The defence faced a few short corners but stood tall every time, showing composure, determination and a never-say-die attitude.
A fantastic team performance sees the Storm progress through the elimination final and into the Preliminary Final! 💙⚡

WOMEN’S | Jacqui Kelly

Jacqui may not have taken the field this season, but she has been a backbone of our Women’s Unit all year.

As our Women’s Team Manager and Club Treasurer, Jacqui is constantly working behind the scenes to keep the team organised, supported and thriving. Her commitment to the team and the wider club doesn’t go unnoticed. 💙

MEN’S | Ben Albrecht

After returning to the field midway through the season, Ben has made his presence felt in the Storm forward line! ⚡️

Consistently putting himself in the right positions and making the most of every opportunity, Ben has been an important part of the team’s attack.

WEEKLY MATCH REPORT
Round 18 of Senior & Round 14 U12 Full Field 🎉

MENS

Storm came out hungry and determined, knowing their finals chances were on the line. They controlled large periods of the game with energy, intensity and composure.
Ben Thomas opened the scoring after a great team link-up between Pete Turner and Troy White, before Ben Albrecht quickly doubled the lead. Melbourne Razorbacks responded through a short corner, but Storm’s defence stood strong for the remainder of the game.
Troy White added another through a deflection from a Taylor Rae pass, before Thomas and Albrecht both found the net again. Rae then sealed the win with a brilliant one-versus-two effort.
Quill, Allard, Daniel Albrecht and Griffin were outstanding in defence, while McClellan, Wahi and Reincastle controlled the midfield and created plenty of attacking opportunities. A special mention to our youngest players, Sammy Albrecht, Will Gregory and new recruit Mitchell Whiting, who worked tirelessly from start to finish.

WOMENS

Our Women’s team went down 1–0 to Monash in a hard-fought and congested contest, with both sides creating several opportunities and earning penalty strokes throughout the game.
Dunlop gave it everything to defend a stroke, but Monash were able to capitalise and find the back of the net.
Our defence was strong throughout, with Gibbons, Gunasinghe and Walsh putting in big efforts at the back. Considine, Nancarrow and Quill worked hard through the midfield, while Fallu x2, Leydon, Ludlow and Quick led the forward line, well supported by our inners Kelly and Peterson.
With sunshine overhead, the team continued to battle through a physical and tightly contested game. Monash’s goalkeeper was outstanding, making it extremely difficult for our forwards and inners to convert their opportunities.
Despite the result not going our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The teamwork, skill development and determination shown throughout the season were on full display, and spirits remained high right until the final whistle.

Most importantly, our Women’s team has secured a spot in the finals at the end of the home-and-away season! 🎉

U12 Full Field:

Cardinia Storm Under 12’s (full field) faced Mornington for the last game of the season, with a great team effort and our loudest crowd of the year!

Storm were the stronger side in the first half, creating plenty of chances. Eddie, Arlia, Will and Jack Q all had shots on target before Jack B broke through just before half time with a powerful goal.

Our defenders fought hard all game. Mornington lifted their intensity in the second half and came away with a 3-1 win.

A really strong team performance to finish a fantastic season.

A huge thank you to all our families and supporters who got behind the team all year.

U12 Half Field:

Forfeit secondary to illness however players still have a few more weeks of the term based competition.

🏑 Player of the Match – Round 17

Men’s – Pete Turner 🏆

This round was a particularly special one for our club and our President, Pete Turner.

Pete was the driving force behind getting our Men’s Unit up and running, and has continued to play a huge role in building our club both on and off the field.

This year, Pete has also been navigating his own health journey, bravely sharing his experience with our members and encouraging everyone to prioritise their health and get regular health checks.

Despite everything, Pete has continued to dominate on the field, showing incredible courage, determination and commitment while representing everything our club stands for.

Women’s – Maddy Reincastle 🏆

Back for just her second game of the season, one of our inaugural Women’s players, Maddy Reincastle showed that time away from the field hasn’t slowed her down!

Maddy was strong throughout the forward line, providing an important link through the attack and helping connect play across the field.

A fantastic return to the team — congratulations, Maddy! 💙🏑

Men’s Health Round - Match Summaries:

Women’s

With finals approaching, our Women’s team faced a crucial clash for the all-important top four. It was a strong team effort, with all areas of the field contributing. Lilly Kelly found the back of the net, while our defence worked hard against a strong Collegians short corner attack.

A big congratulations to Will on umpiring his first senior game — he did a fantastic job! Our Men’s Health Player of the Match was awarded to the Collegians goalkeeper for an outstanding performance, making it difficult for our forwards to convert their opportunities.

Men’s

A tough result, but plenty of positives to take away. Cam Watts returned between the posts and put in one of his best performances, while Kendal Brown, Daniel Albrecht and Ben Quill were strong in defence.

Jake Griffin and Sam Albrecht worked tirelessly through the midfield, with Bryce Alards and Peter Turner also creating some great opportunities. Unfortunately, the forwards couldn’t capitalise on their chances. With finals still within reach, the team will regroup and lift the intensity for the remaining games.

U12 Full Field

A fantastic 3–1 win over Casey in our penultimate game of the season. The team brought a positive attacking mindset from the start, creating a fast and entertaining game.

Jack B impressed in defence before moving forward to score, while Arlia celebrated her first ever hockey goal! Isaac was awarded Player of the Match, with Jack B and Bikramjot also recognised for standout performances. Jack Q sealed the win with a late goal. A brilliant team effort!

U12 Half Field

Our U12 Half Field team started the day strongly against Southern, coming away unfortunately with a 3-2 loss .

The team continues to show great development each round, with their skills, confidence and understanding of the game continuing to grow. A fantastic effort from the whole team!

We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our Women’s Unit members, Lilly Kelly, has been selected as a Train-On for the Hockey Victoria U14 Development Squad! 🏑💙

Lilly has put in countless hours of training and hard work, making the most of every opportunity that has come her way. Her dedication, commitment and willingness to learn have truly paid off.

🎉 50 GAMES | BEN “COOKIE” QUILL 🏑

This week we celebrate Ben “Cookie” Quill reaching 50 games for Cardinia Storm! 💙

Cookie wears many hats across our club — Junior Coordinator, Junior Coach and Men’s Captain— and is always willing to pitch in wherever he’s needed. He’s a key part of the growth and development of our junior program, and you’ll rarely hear him say no when someone needs a hand.

Cookie has been around Storm since our inaugural juniors in summer 2023 and was a member of our inaugural men’s unit in 2024 securing the clubs inaugural’s premiership 🎉

On the field, Cookie is one of the core members of our Men’s Unit, holding down centre half and bringing plenty of energy and commitment to the team.

You’ll also regularly find him playing “backwards”, seemingly determined to turn hockey into a left-handed sport! 😂🏑

Off the field, you’ll usually find Cookie working hard to build his new business or ripping down the trails in Warburton on his mountain bike 🚵‍♂️

Congratulations on 50 games, Cookie! A huge milestone for someone who gives so much to Storm both on and off the field.
