A lot of confusion exists around the difference between an Exercise Physiologist and Physiotherapist?
Is there even a difference?
Both are 4 years of minimum tertiary training and both have a wide scope of practice, so naturally, confusion exists.
Physiotherapists will deal with the acute phase of an injury or condition, using a wide battery of tools including massage, manipulation, needles, and exercises to help manage pain and inflammation and start the rehabilitation process.
An Exercise Physiologist will then step in to complete the rehabilitation process to help tie in the injury or condition with the overall health and fitness goals of the individual.
This is done by prescribing the specific types and dosages of exercise.
Exercise Physiologist is also specialized in using movement to help you; lose weight, gain muscle, strengthen bones and deal with chronic health conditions.
