Porirua Grand Traverse 2026. Summary by Julz as Ian's version is probably just a series of expletives.
We trained bloody hard for this race so it deserves some kind of summary...
We both completed the duathlon, which included a 32k "mtb" and 21k "mountain run", each with 1000m elevation gain.
The course would best be described as fully f@$%d and the rain from the cyclone did not help.
Times were much slower than expected and when we finally rode home after the event (at 5pm) there were still people out on course with the Marshalls still standing out in the rain. The creek was flooding and ducks had taken over the bike path.
Somehow my endurance training enabled me to pass a lot of people in the run and i ended up beating everyone else (including teams) which was pretty cool but i did not realise until 2 days later when results were finalized.
There were some positives:
The area where the race was had some lovely native bush, one nice mtb loop and some great walking trails.
The run course traversed a private station with amazing scenery which was a special opportunity.
New world Tawa is possibly the best supermarket in NZ

And that is all.

Big day out yesterday at the . Julz ran the 50k and Ian cycled around providing drinks, cheers and all around good vibes as always. It was wet and muddy and Julz struggled the last 10k or so but managed to hold on for 3rd female and 1st 40-44 female.
Big thanks to all the volunteers, event organisers, other competitors and friends and family for the well wishes.
Not sure what is next but definitely some easy rides and hot springs in the short term!
