Congrats to competition squad member Ollie Moclair, who just broke the Australian 18-year-old age record for the 50m Freestyle SCM, clocking 21.08 seconds and beating the previous 14 year old record of 21.36, held by now Olympic swimmer Cam McEvoy.

North Sydney Olympic Pool is located on Cammeraygal Country, on the edge of the saltwater valley that is Sydney Harbour. The site has been home to communities, swimmers and stories for tens of thousands of years.

‘Whale Dreaming’ by Saltwater Elder Uncle Bryce Moran is “a dreamtime story of the Cammeraygal Nation, told through the whale’s journey to the Headland and north for mating season.”
With cultural consultation from Auntie Jeanie Moran, Council commissioned First Nations creative consultants Dark Lightning to animate Uncle Bryce’s painting to help share this story with visitors to the pool. We’re thrilled to be able to share this short excerpt with you here.

‘Whale Dreaming’ will be on display downstairs against the living sandstone wall, while the selection and commissioning of a new First Nations work of permanent public art is underway. The successful artist will be announced in early October, following a recent call for Expressions of Interest, with installation of the work to begin in late 2026.
