When someone reaches their first milestone of losing 10 kilograms, I like to do a simple exercise.
I hand them a 10 kg weight plate, ask them to hold it straight out in front of them like they’re carrying a pizza box, and see how long they can last.
For most people, it isn’t long.
The shoulders start burning, the arms fatigue, and the pressure on the joints becomes obvious very quickly. As you can see with Oscar, those last few seconds become a real challenge.
It’s a powerful reminder of what they’ve actually achieved.
Sometimes a number on the scales doesn’t truly sink in. But feeling the weight you used to carry every single day puts everything into perspective.
Oscar could only hold this plate out in front of him for around 10 seconds.
Now imagine carrying that extra 10 kilograms with every step you took, every flight of stairs you climbed, every time you stood up, walked around, or exercised. That’s the load his muscles, joints, heart, and lungs were dealing with every single day.
No matter where you are in your journey, take a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come. Your body feels healthier, moves better, has more energy, and is under far less strain than it once was.
I’m incredibly proud of this young man. Despite everything life has thrown at him, including living with autism, he has stayed focused, committed, and determined.
Watching his progress has been an absolute privilege—not just as his trainer, but as his friend.
I can’t wait to see what he achieves next.
Well done, Oscar.
