What a night on the mats. 💜🥋

A huge thank you to Paul Chapman for sharing his time, knowledge and experience with us.

Congratulations to our new belts - each one represents countless hours of training, persistence, challenges and progress. Very well deserved. 👏

But one of the best parts of the night was the atmosphere.

A packed mat, plenty of laughs, teammates supporting one another and our community coming together to celebrate each other.

These are the nights that remind us that Unity is about so much more than just jiu jitsu.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a special night. 💜

This week, 7 year old Noah did something many adults never do.

Recently he'd found himself caught in the same submission repeatedly. It left him feeling anxious about coming back to class.

But he came anyway.

Then he asked one of our coaches,

"Can you show me how to get out of it?"

That simple question took incredible courage.

Many people avoid the things that make them uncomfortable.
Some stop showing up altogether.

Noah chose a different path.

He faced the problem, asked for help, and got to work learning how to overcome it.

That's one of the greatest lessons Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can teach.

Not how to avoid difficult situations - how to understand them, practise through them, and overcome them.

Thank you for reminding all of us what courage really looks like Noah. Your bravery inspires us 💜🥋

What an incredible weekend for Team Unity at the Queensland State Championships.

Saturday was all about the adults, and what a performance they put on. We walked away with 3 State Champions, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals, but the medals only tell part of the story.

We got to watch our head coach, Ricky, do things on the mats we’ve never even seen him do before. Pat got his first win after only a couple months of training . Lee fought tooth and nail, leaving absolutely everything out there. Brooke put on an incredible performance to become a double State Champion, taking out both Gi and No-Gi. I managed to bring home the Gi State Championship, but Brooke definitely showed me up this weekend!

More importantly, our adult team led by example. They competed with courage, confidence, humility and outstanding sportsmanship, setting the standard for everyone watching.

Sunday belonged to the kids, and they followed that example perfectly.

Our youngest competitors Lincoln, Freya, Raya and Athena showed unbelievable bravery, pushing through fear, nerves and huge emotions just to step onto the mats. That kind of courage is something to be proud of.

Mina, Yani, Conan, Elijah, Miya and Bonni all stepped up to tougher challenges and met them head-on with grit, determination and heart. Jojo also stepped up into the juvenile white belt division and fought his way to becoming a State Champion.

To every single competitor, thank you.

We’re proud of how you fought, how you pushed yourselves outside your comfort zones, how you supported each other and, most importantly, how you represented Unity. Medals fade, but the character you showed this weekend is what truly matters.

Congratulations, Team Unity. We couldn’t be prouder. 💜🥋

Our recent kids grading was a beautiful reminder of just how much growth can happen when kids keep showing up.

Belts & stripes are exciting, but they're only part of the story.

What made us exceptionally proud was the courage displayed by kids who were nervous on the day.
Persistence from kids who kept trying when things felt difficult.
And confidence that has been built one class at a time.

To all of our students who graded: congratulations. Your new stripe or belt represents the hard work you've already done, but more importantly, it represents the person you're becoming.

We're all immensely proud of each of you. 💜🥋

What an incredible showing from Team Unity at this Sunday’s competition!
Our team walked away with:🥈 2nd Overall – Male No-Gi🥉 3rd Overall – Male Gi🥉 3rd Overall – Female No-Gi
An absolutely outstanding effort from everyone involved. You all represented Unity with skill, determination, and sportsmanship, and we couldn’t be prouder.
As amazing as the trophies and medals are, what matters most to us is seeing our members step outside their comfort zones and onto the mats. Every single person who competes is already achieving something special simply by having the courage to test themselves.
A huge shout-out to young Aaron, who competed for the very first time this weekend, you should be incredibly proud of yourself.
Another special mention goes to Lincoln and Pat. Watching a father and son not only compete together, but share their very first competition side by side, is exactly what Unity is all about. Those are memories that will last a lifetime.
To every competitor, coach, parent, teammate, and supporter, thank you for representing our gym and our values. Your hard work is paying off, and we’re excited to see where this journey takes you next.
Keep working hard, keep supporting one another, and keep growing.
We’re incredibly proud of you all.

Confidence isn't built by avoiding challenges.

It's built by facing them.

One position.
One problem.
One small victory at a time.

That's what our kids do every day on the mats. 💜
