🏏 THANK YOU, CAPTAIN RUPAK SAPKOTA! ❤️🙏

As we prepare to begin a new chapter for the Newcastle Nepalese Cricket Team, we would like to take a moment to recognise and sincerely thank our outgoing Captain, Rupak Sapkota, for his incredible contribution to our team.

Rupak led our team through the 2023–2025 Summer and Winter seasons, and his captaincy was about much more than what happened on the cricket field.

Under his leadership, we were able to secure valuable sponsorships that helped cover registration fees, cricket equipment and other team expenses. We organised regular practice matches, travelled outside Newcastle to play cricket, and invited many teams to Newcastle to build stronger relationships and create more opportunities for our players. 🏏🏆

But what made Rupak’s tenure special was the friendship, togetherness and community spirit he helped build around the team.

From countless BBQs and team gatherings to actively participating in NCON and community events including Holi Mela, cultural festivals, Dashain Cup, table tennis, concerts, movie nights, house parties, Bhajan Kirtan and many more — we didn’t just play cricket together, we created memories together. ❤️

Rupak, we have genuinely enjoyed your time as our Captain. Thank you for your leadership, commitment, time, friendship and everything you have done behind the scenes to keep this team moving forward.

As Arjun Shrestha and Suresh Subedi take on the new leadership responsibilities, we believe they will continue to build on the strong foundation you have helped create and make you proud.

The captaincy may change, but your place in this team does not. We know your experience, guidance and support will always be there whenever the team needs it. 🤝

🏏 A NEW CHAPTER – NEWCASTLE NEPALESE CRICKET TEAM | DIVISION 1 – 2026 🏏

We are incredibly excited to announce that the Newcastle Nepalese Cricket Team is playing Division 1 for the 2026 season! 🎉🏆

When we started this journey five years ago, playing Division 1 cricket was one of our dreams. Today, that dream has become a reality. ❤️🏏

Moving to Division 1 means a new level of cricket for our team — better turf wickets, professional umpires, 4-piece white cricket balls instead of red, coloured jerseys, 40-over matches, and most importantly, stronger and more competitive cricket. We are excited to take on this challenge and represent our Nepalese community with pride. 🇳🇵🇦🇺

🏏 New Leadership for 2026

We are also pleased to announce our leadership team for this exciting new chapter:

Congratulations to both! 👏🎉
We have every confidence that Arjun and Suresh will work together, lead from the front and continue building a strong, united and competitive team.

As we step into Division 1, we would also like to sincerely recognise and appreciate our previous captains and leaders — Madhav Yadav, Sudip Poudel and Rupak Sapkota. ❤️

Your leadership, commitment and countless contributions over the years have helped bring this team to where it is today. Division 1 is not just an achievement for the current team; it is the result of years of hard work from everyone who has worn and supported our jersey.

We believe Arjun will proudly carry forward the legacy you have built and take Newcastle Nepalese Cricket Team to the next level. 💪🏏

🏏 MEET THE PLAYER — EDITION 8

SUMAN SHRESTHA

Some players contribute through runs and wickets. Others contribute in ways that don’t always show up on the scorecard. Suman Shrestha is one of those players.

Suman was one of the first people involved in building the team we proudly play for today, going all the way back to 2021. Since then, he has remained an integral part of the team — contributing far more than his statistics could ever suggest.

He has produced some memorable performances along the way, including a match-winning 50 against CAM Youths, as well as another important innings against Gosford CC. And if back injuries weren’t part of the story, there’s no doubt we would have seen many more innings like those!

This season, Suman’s role goes well beyond his contribution on the field. The team is counting on him not only as a player, but also as an important part of the management team, where his experience and understanding of the club will be invaluable.

And we simply cannot talk about Suman without mentioning Subu ❤️

Suman’s son has been supporting the team for years and has become a familiar and much-loved face around the club. After being nominated as Supporter of the Year two years in a row, Subu has truly become part of our team family. 👏

Suman is also regarded by many players as one of the team’s unofficial coaches. Whether it’s helping in the nets, giving advice, or happily throwing down ball after ball so the batsmen can get the practice they need — he is always willing to put in the work for the team.

With experience, commitment and a genuine desire to see the team succeed, Suman has a big role to play in the next chapter of our journey.

The team will be relying heavily on his experience, leadership and guidance as we look to take this club to greater heights.

A player. A mentor. A supporter. A leader.

🏏 Dubbo Tour 2026 – Friendship Cup (Running Shield) 🏆

What an incredible weekend of cricket, friendship, and community spirit!

A huge thank you to Everest Club Dubbo for creating such a fantastic cricketing environment and for organising an unforgettable T20 match under the lights. For many of our boys, it was their very first experience playing under lights in freezing cold conditions, making it a memory we’ll cherish for years to come.

We would also like to thank Team Dubbo for organising a well-managed 35-over white-ball match. The effort and hospitality shown by everyone involved made this tour truly special.

Cricket is more than just winning and losing. The introduction of the Friendship Cup Running Shield, with two matches each year (home and away), is a wonderful initiative that will continue to strengthen the bond between Newcastle and Dubbo and promote friendship through cricket for many years to come.

Everest Club Dubbo fought hard until the very end but fell just short, with Newcastle Nepalese winning by 6 runs.
