Vasthistasana, Side plank, is a challenging asana for strength, balance and flexibility.
In our preparations here (experienced class), the wall helps to support the bottom foot in its everted position. It supports the top leg as an intermediate stage of the pose towards grasping the big toe (angusta).

Hanging in the ropes ...
Working with the ropes (yoga karunta) is an intense and challenging way for an Upward dog variation, Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, giving an even stronger extension in the thoracic and lumbar region, a depth you often don’t get with your hands on the floor.

After backbends, we release the back, here using Uttanasana with a brick between the thighs, giving you a broadness in the back. The lumbar is gently extended, one side at a time, in Parsva Uttanasana.
