Kris Lees Racing will break new ground with his first New Zealand runner early next month.

The leading Newcastle Racecourse trainer announced Age Of Sail as his maiden representative “across the ditch” in the 3200m G2 Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on March 7.

Age Of Sail carries the same colours as his now deceased former outstanding mare Luca Valentina, who was raced by well-known New Zealander Lib Petagna.

He was an acceptor for two races at Rosehill Gardens today; the 1400m BM100 Handicap & 1900m G3 Parramatta Cup.

The Cup was Lees preference but after not gaining a start he will line up in the BM100, with Jason Collett in the saddle.

James McDonald made the most of a late pick-up ride on Hawker Hall when he let the gelding rip from a wide barrier to run his rivals ragged in the $250,000 Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

With Jason Collett stood down after a fall earlier in the day, McDonald was called upon as the super sub by trainer Kris Lees Racing.
