Today some of the ActiveStrongerBetter team are heading down to Sydney for the 2026 AUSactive National Awards Gala as the program was named as finalists for the Most Inclusive and/or Diverse Program and the Social Value & Community Impact Awards🥳😆💚

The ActiveStrongerBetter program is a partnership of Novacare Community Services and Hunter Ageing Alliance, both who have provided enormous support, life and guidance for the program. The program would not be possible without this ongoing support!

We are thrilled to be finalists for these awards and give credit to our amazing community of ASB Leaders and participants who create such a positive and fun loving community while getting active, stronger and better!

September is World Alzheimer's Month - Did you know people who are physically active throughout life, especially from age 65 onward, are less likely to develop dementia. 🧠⛹️‍♀️🧘🤾‍♀️🚴

This month aims to raise global awareness about the disease and attitudes towards dementia. A diagnosis of Alzheimer's and the associated symptoms can create additional barriers to exercise. Inactivity can lead to negative health outcomes and a negative impact the progression of the disease. Exercise is such an important tool for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's and there is a strong need for safe and accessible exercise classes.

The World Health Organisation has also recently revised its guidelines on reducing the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. 🧐

They report that 45% of risk can be attributed to modifiable factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, social isolation, physical inactivity, air pollution and non-communicable diseases (eg high blood pressure and diabetes). 👏

These above chronic diseases are also positively impacted by improving exercise habits.

The ActiveStrongerBetter program has been developed to increase accessibility and prevalence of exercise programs that are fun and safe for older adults and to people living with chronic conditions such as dementia/Alzheimer's and to . 💚💚💚
